Good tablet
I got this last week. So far, no problems with the device as far as actually working. There is a little lag at times after pressing an icon, but not much. It is very fast, especially since I haven't loaded it up with useless junk. I'm not a gamer, and watching movies on something like this seems kind of pointless since I have a 55" 3D Tv. As for a book-reader, NO thanks. I want books that I can pass along, and don't depend on batteries. My main problem is lack of "help" on this device. For instance, I have three e-mail accts through live.com. So far, I have only been able to configure only one through the e-mail app provided, and can't find any help options or instructions for adding more. I have researched the internet where many others have the same problem, and other third party options can be found, such as K9, but it keeps changing the e-mail address and then won't sync. Even through K9, no help, no instructions for adding more. It's just there. Lack of "help" is overall this device's worst downfall SO FAR!The price is excellent, as I already have a desktop, laptop, and netbook. The lightweight portability and battery life were my main reasons for wanting the tablet, as I'm not lugging the netbook, with limited battery, or the laptop, which is heavy. The 7" tablets are just too small for reading comfortably.Revision - . I found out how to add more e-mail accts. Open the email icon & touch & hold on the right side of the screen. An option for add acct should come up. I got rid of K9.Now my peeve is that I have trouble inputting comments on some sites as the keyboard doesn't recognize an interactive situation. No problem here-just on some sites. My main complaint is lack of help. You shouldn't have to search forums when you have a problem. ..

Great Device
I've had the 101 for about a month now, and feel it's a great device and provides the level of usefulness to be expected from a tablet. It's true that the viewing angle is limited, but hey, we're not reviewing a wide screen TV here. It's a personal device made to be used/viewed by a single individual. In this vein, the limited viewing angles are a non-player.The screen touch sensitivity is very good. I thought it was bad at first, and couldn't get icons to move on the home screens, drag unwanted icons to the trashcan, etc. Then I read on the forum that it takes a light touch. It seems I was pressing too hard on the screen. If one uses a light touch, ir works great.I was disappointed that it couldn't play MPEG-2 out of the box, but a $14 app allows me to stream DVD content wirelessly and watch movies stored on my server. It natively plays all other video and audio formats I've thrown at it.The inexpensive ($15?) DataViz Documents to Go app lets me create and edit Word, Excel, and Powerpoint documents, as well as read PDFs.Access to the Google App store gives you thousands of apps, many free and many worthwhile.All-in-all, the Archos 101 is a great device. Just remember, it's not a 57" TV, nor is it a laptop or netbook.

Stay Away from this Tablet
Information; Archos 101IT accessories; skintomi carbon fiber wrap case protector, leather case, backup battery, HOLUX GPS receiver, Archos screen protector, headphone y splitter and cup holder car mount from mount guys.Purchased mid April Tablet is laggy and freezes frequently. Was excited to receive and purchased all the accessories including blue tooth Gps reciver and all my purchased apps were finally working not more than a month and a few weeks later, as of 7am 5/26/2011 the archos 101 was locked in startup screen, did a reboot factory reset as advised by manual "nothing"called tech support was on hold for 45 min to have the tech tell me to format (which makes you loose the apps you paid for unless you back them up which I should have done but didn't my loss) and re install the main AOS android operating system I did this 3 times and it still does not work. The tablet was nice while it lasted but again too many drawbacks for the money. Archos needs to do some more R & D before they release any more of these Oh and most of the APPs sold being they are for phones with smaller screens ect do not work on this tablet it was trial and error for me to find the apps that would work. I am going to re contact them following this comment and hope they will release an RMA. I also read on the Archos threads the support for RMA's is horrible and if you are fortunate enough to get an RMA the return time is horrible. Needless to say I am very disappointed and angry I needed this for my out of state trip in July.

Archos 10.1
This was bought as a present for my 80 year old father. If it is manageable for him and for my Mother who has chronic arthritis in her hands then I should think most people could use this. It is simple, straight forward and a classic tablet. I think I want one too. There are obvious issues if you compare it to an IPad but then it isn't Ipad priced. Yes it lacks the seemless scrolling but if you haven't experienced this then you wouldn't know the difference. I found it easy to use straight out of the box but I do have an Android phone, and I like the Android market for apps. You will not be using this for much serious word processing or work but the screen works well for games, surfing and e-mails. I found the touch screen responsive and only needs a light touch, the multi home screens enable you to have screens dedicated to what suits you.All in all I would say this was a good buy.

Poor mans apple
As the title says this is a poor man's apple. With 8GB storage and 512MB memory along with a 1GHz processor this device is more than fast enough for surfing, video streaming, reading heavy PDFs documents and reasonable games like angry birds etc.Android 2.2 is cool and the most recent update to the firmware is 2.4.65 and with that on, the device is working pretty well. Tethering to android phones, blackberry and iPhone is working pretty well and that is a wonderful option that even the best of the top range products doesn't seem to offer. It now supports the archos 3g key as well which is great but haven't tried that though.Battery back up and most other essential stuff (touch wood) are working really fine and are more than expected for me. I thing they could have had some more memory on-board than 512MB. Skype video calling which I have tested today working pretty well too.For those who are not so obsessed about brands and all the show off's that goes on in the media and some one who is looking for a real value for product this is probably the best thing to go for rather than Ipad2, Galaxy tab or even the kindle for those who thing the kindle has too little to offer. Thanks & Regards,Maha

My son loves this
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my son, but didn't want to pay iPad prices. He absolutely loves it, he can download any app or game he wants to and it works a treat. The battery lasts for ages (although I haven't timed it). He can stream movies through it, surf the web (wifi) and lots more besides. My only slight gripe is that most downloads are automatically downloaded into the system storage, which slows the unit down a bit. However, you can transfers this to the internal storage of the machine and it frees up it's resources (my reason for 4 stars). No big deal really. I bought a 8GB SD card so doubled its capacity for under a tenner. If its your first machine then its a good start.

Great Internet Tablet for the price
OK it's not an iPad... but then again it costs a quarter of the price! It's capacitive screen isn't as touch friendly as some and sometimes it does seem to process a little slowly.Apart from that it has an expansive memory, Android working system that allows for all the usual Google and E-mail programmes.I use it on the move and where there is free Wifi but you could tether it to your mobile phone to give 3G out and about.Use it to get your E-mails have internet access and also for things like showing your digital photos without the confines of printing or being beside a PC.Great tablet for the money as far as I'm concerned.
