Shows whose cameras are bad...
Got this to replace my Pioneer Kuro TV (which still worked fine) because I wanted a "smart" TV. Unpacking was a bit of a chore but I (with some help) did it. The picture is great & I think when I get into the settings it will be even better. Watching football yesterday (Saturday) the cameras on the sidelines were nice & sharp but the end zone ones were a little fuzzy, probably because they were older. I love this TV!ERik

Fantastic upgrade from a Sony Bravia 4K LCD TV
This 55" Sony Bravia XR8B OLED TV replaces a nearly 10 year old 55" 4K LCD TV that we have moved to another room. My has technology change a lot since then.I'm not going to regurgitate all of this TV's specs here as they can be found fairly easily in the Amazon product listing or on Sony's web site.Interestingly, the same sized 55" LCD TV weighed 38.2 lbs and the XR8B 37.7 lbs. While the new TV is slimmer and has smaller bezels the weight has not changed much. These numbers are without the stand for wall mounting.Out of the box the TV is very poorly set up. Brightness is set to max and colors are off. I used a number of YouTube videos to help perform a self calibration that significantly lowered the brightness and changed color settings. What the previous TV did not offer was HDR. The XR8B does, and what a difference both OLED and HDR make in terms of overall picture quality. To me that is real reason to finally buy into OLED, whose prices have come down significantly over the past few years. The overall brightness level is higher while the dark areas are darker. The TV picture has never been more crisp and 3D like. The XR8B comes with covers for the back to cover up the cable ports area and the unused and exposed TV stand openings. Using them results in a very clean looking backside that helps keep dust away from the ports.I mounted the new TV onto the same wall mount the previous TV was mounted to, and just reused the screws that were already pre-screwed into the back of the TV. Installing the new TV was a breeze. The included Google TV environment is pretty good. However, we use Apple TVs in our house so after configuring network and enabling HDR I didn't really reference the Google TV aspect of the TV after that. The integration with Apple TV and our A/V receiver works great. A single HDMI connection to the eARC/ARC HDMI part is all that is required for all our content sources to work with the XR8B.With the Apple TV set up to 4K@60Hz with HDR the picture is just wonderful, better than we have ever had in the house. The second most used device with this TV is a Sony PS5. Gaming takes on a new dimension, almost literally, with games that support HDR. And those that don't look a lot better than before. The TV remote is small but functional. We don't really need it other than to get into the setup menu because the combination of Apple TV remote and A/V receiver remote can control everything else. The remote has a spotted finish which makes it look like it is always dusty. Not sure what Sony was thinking there.Surprisingly the sound out of this TV is not too bad as far as thin TVs go, definitely better than the sound quality from the previous TV. That said I still would not wish the built-in speakers on anyone if it is possible to hook up a decent sound bar or audio system. I set the audio to external system, through the HDMI connection, and left it at that.Overall this TV is just what I expected. It is a huge improvement overall the TV it replaces.

Listen I wanna give this TV five stars it looks great has amazing color and works even in full daylight with the sun shining right on it, I cannot. I'm giving this four stars because it continuously ceaselessly advertises for things that Google sells offering me purchases of streaming services they provide like YouTube and movies purchased from the Google store. Searching online tells me clearly that this is not a thing that I can remove, and it simply doesn't work as well without the ads that come with the voice command functions etcetera. The built in microphone is by default turned off which is great, but unfortunately it consumes significantly more electricity when it is on, and many of the commands leave something to be desired. For example on volume control the examples say set the volume to 3, but when using any kind of sound bar it will only decrease the volume by a single pip instead of to your desired volume level. Additionally the TV does not interact well with Bluetooth speakers (my samsung new high end one connected but no settings or resets ever produced any volume), nor did it play nice with optical input speakers, and can really only interact via HDMI with a speaker system, and still in a way that leaves much to be desired. The remote is not programmable, so you'll need TWO remotes if you have a soundbar. That said, the sound from the television is pretty good, just not good enough if you are used to anything better or want to subwoofer. If you're willing to put up with the quirkiness of HDMI out controlling your audio, the visuals are quite good, but are far from high end. It operates on an Android system and actually found applications I hadn't used in a decade using the Google ecosystem which was kind of fun, but it can't actually use most of those programs, since it isn't a touch screen. This is a solid four stars, largely because there is NO WAY to skip ads (even on app only version), the remote is tiny and black (which is insane because everyone loses their remote), and it has the prime real estate buttons on the remote as"Sony Pictures Core" (everyone's favorite streaming service?YouTube (thanks, Google, which owns it)and Crunchryroll (fairly niche, but owned by Sony)Yes it also has netflix disney and amazon, but these are the buttons that are a bit less easy to press, and I hate when design is done by a guy who has to drive attention to a specific media outlet instead of someone who cares what your experience is like. The sony pictures app comes preloaded and the TV comes with access to "classic" movies or something, but in four minutes of looking I could not find ANYTHING except an amazon prime show in that app that was free. What a baffling design choice. The higher end versions come WITH several free downloads from this service which ABSOLUTELY should have happened here too. Even with 5 free new movies, I'm not sure building in another app would make it worth putting on my homescreen, but as it stands I am relegating it to the furthest reaches of what can be clicked.Final concern before I throw on four stars anyway, is that the HDMI ports and power cable are on opposite sides of the TV, so you WILL have cables coming out both ends. The power cable plugs in at the tv's midpoint, it is very short, and there is NO groove for it to strap down or tuck in, so it will dangle across the back of the TV wherever you have the outlet. This is just terrible design.I moved from a samsung with a OneConnect cable that was gorgeous on the wall and made everything tidy. This is messy by design.I will probably end up getting a high end firestick and just ignoring all the Hey Google junk, if I can get the stick to activate both the TV and soundbar, since the TV has only one dedicated eArc HDMI port. FIngers crossed.
