Yes it is a deep red with a touch of brown in it.

Q: I'm looking for cord to sew baskets and trivets. I have been using clothesline cord. Is this cord to soft to use?

this cord is soft. I don't think it would work well for baskets, but would be fine for trivets. I used it to crochet around a round styrofoam for a wreath and it was great.
