Great quality cleaver that will be in your kitchen probably forever
This product is built for a lifetime. Solid, heavy, nice-looking blade, both in the finish and the laser-etching, and the handle feels great, like the classic old knives my mom had in her kitchen drawer, with good quality wood solidly riveted to the full tang coming from the blade. It arrived sharp enough to shave hairs off my arm along the whole length of the blade. The only flaw was a couple small nicks in the edge that had to be viewed in a certain light angle to see, and won't affect use in any noticeable way. I haven't had to sharpen it yet and don't expect to need to for a while, but I don't foresee any problems with doing so.

Great cleaver
Sharp, easy to hand wash. Have only used it once so far it seems well made and worked as it should.

Impressive Cleaver
My wife has been wanting a meat cleaver especially for splitting ribs. We had been using a high end chef's knife and though it did get the job done, it was NOT meant for cutting through cartilage or bone. After reading many reviews on various web sites, both home and for chefs a few cleaver were always mentioned. This one from Victorinox was on every list and cost a bit less than the other and a lot less than the highest rated. However in overall satisfaction this one seems to very score high. So I ordered it.My wife absolutely loves it. It cut the time required to separate raw ribs from around 15 minutes to less then 5 minutes. Oh and not a lot of whacking around at the cartilage or bones either. In fact she never had to use the hard whack method. Most times it just sliced through easily, the toughest part she laid in down and rocked while pressing with her other other hand. Wow, she was ecstatic. We have since used to spit a chicken, fast and easy. And to cut a pork butt into two for roasts. Absolutely wonderful.I* highly recommend this Victorinox Meat Cleaver.

Well, it is made in the USA, which used to be a good thing.
First of all, this cleaver is heavy, well balanced, and razor sharp. Unfortunately , I had to return the first one. The first cleaver arrived with 3 distinct and deep dents, or chips, in the blade. They were more dents, I would say, as you could see the folding. I returned it with absolutely no problem. The second cleaver arrived today. There was a small chip on the tip. Nothing too bad, it was easily honed out. But. This is really unacceptable. This is a well respected brand, supposedly made in the USA. Why on earth would there be two back to back shipments of knives with defective edges? Where is the quality control? Is there no pride in craftsmanship left in this world? I expect this cleaver will provide me with many years of good service, but, I should not have to repair a piece prior to usage.

Victorinox won't let you down.
Well built. Wirecutter was right. Priced fairly too!

Poorly made + unprotected shipping
Wood handle on tang a few millimeters too small. Tang cuts into hand and fingers while gripping.Packaging method is nearly non existent. Blade cut through plastic and wax and chipped during shipping + handling. No foam or substantial protection.Blade not sharpened or polished. I would need to sharpen it myself if I were to keep this badly made product. Not worth $80.

WOW!!!
I bought this as a gift for "The Man" after doing tons of research on butchering tools. This cleaver is solid, hefty, and TOUGH! It is super sharp and doesn't waste any time or effort cutting through bone and even frozen Meats. Even though it is too heavy for me to use as intended due to loss of feeling from nerve damage, it is well-balanced even in my small hands. I used it for a few minutes to cut up some root veggies (because I didn't want to get another knife dirty), and it Sliced right through them with no real effort on my part right after The Man used it for the meats.
