Should have bought this to begin with!!
I originally bought the "Oakton EcoTestr pH 2 Waterproof pH Tester, 0.0 to 14.0 pH Range" for $52.40 and it worked fine for a while. it is a sensitive device as most of these are. if you are the slightest bit careless, you will break it, and I did. a major problem when the electrode can not be replaced.I then moved to a much cheaper product the "Neewer New Mini Digital Pen Type PH Meter PH-009 I Multimeter Tester Hydro" for $10.89 and for the most part it worked, but with a fault. it constantly needed calibration with EVERY test, which is a huge pain when doing multiple tests.I finally couldn't take it anymore and bought this product... why did I not just get this to begin with??!! I saw the product, read the reviews and read its stats. ultimately deciding to go cheaper.. let me tell you something, DON'T!!Not only is this a quality product, working to perfection straight out of the box with ease, it also has the availability for electrode replacement, and though that part is expensive, its not as much as a brand new quality tester, and with care I shouldn't have to replace it for a long time!! I use it at a 7.0 calibration which is something not clearly specified in the instructions. it suggests a 4.0 cal. straight away. mine has worked perfectly with the 7.0!! the specs go greater into detail, just read them. but trust me when I say DO NOT GO CHEAPER THEN THIS PRODUCT!! you will eventually have to pay for this level of frustration free, quality ph testing. and the key words you need to focus on are, "frustration free!" haven't had a problem yet. I know all tech is not without its fair share of glitches, but I'll coast to that point versus stumbling in the dark pissed at life and my poor decision making. =)Also it may be difficult to know which product it is that you are getting. there is one with a refillable electrode (solution residing within) I believe.. this is not that product. there is a little sponge in the bottom of its cap you keep moist with desired calibration solution.

This unit is so much better, smarter and faster
I had a (unnamed) PH tester half the price of this unit. This unit is so much better, smarter and faster. If you calibrate it correctly, store it properly and care for the unit, it will give you accurate and reliable results. No device works automagically. You have to use it as designed. Read the directions and storage procedures and you won't be disappointed. I purchased this unit mostly because the sensor can be replaced. The sensor cost the most but the manufacturer put in the logic to give you good-reliable readings. Just take care of it as designed and you can't go wrong. PH meters don't last forever and go bad over time. This is just the way of the world. Take care of your instruments damnit.

Would have been 5 stars if not broken.
Broken right out of the box . Works well otherwise.Sucks that it's too much trouble to replace it - not worth the time of packaging & shipping out , then waiting on a new one.Tired of getting Amazon stuff that was broken BEFORE it was packaged and sent.

Awesome meter! (For the price) And Great customer Support
OK, so PH meters are expensive. Most lab equipment is. If you need top of the line precision, this isn't your meter. But if you are, you are not looking for a meter on Amazon. For most of us, who need accuracy within a tenth or so, this is an amazing deal. I owned one of these, it stopped working after about 9 months, I called tech support, had a new one to me in days. Top notch service. Eventually I got tired of how long it took to get results, and getting inconsistent results on fabric. I stepped up to a $600 (Average Price for a low to mid level lab meter)Hanna Unit. First, Awful Customer service. Second, Exactly the same performance as my Extech! Turns out that's how long it takes, and that fabric itself is inconsistent. Much more expensive, and super delicate, The Probes for the Hana are between $150 and $200 to replace, broke mine in just a couple of months. Although, it turns out it was only supposed to be good for about 6-9 months anyway, before the fluid was spent. At Half the price for just a replacement Probe on the other unit, this thing is a steal (even with a $40 probe in 6 months, and worst case a new unit every year), and I will not buy anything else in the future!

Great pocket meter
Easy to Calibrate and so far very accurate

Very reliable... Once you know how to use it.
I use this for cheese making. When I first got it, the readings weren't consistent. So I took out the probe and inserted it back in. The meter has been very consistent since then. I've only needed to calibrate once after that, so the calibration holds very well.. There<s a slight learning curve, but you should get the hang of it in no time.I don't know how well the meter performs for other applications, but I strongly recommend this model for home cheese makers. The flat prob is a must in this case.

Got this for cheesemaking. I wouldn't get it again.
I got this for cheese making since I wanted to take myself to the next level. The device is pretty nice and sturdy, and the readings are fine. I like the ability to hold the values and recall them later, so I can take my notes. However, it was rather difficult and frustrating to work with this tool. I found myself calibrating it over and over again because I was getting strange readings, changing the calibration buffers etc. It doesn't always settle, sometimes it settles on something and then slowly adjusting over the course of 3-4 minutes quite significantly (for example, it would "settle" on 6.3 and then reduce to 5.7 slowly while still being "settled" - not blinking). It often made me miss my times due to messing with the tool too much, and I couldn't rely on the readings..I ended up keeping it for random pH needs (like gardening etc), but for cheese making I got a proper cheese meter (Hanna Instruments HALO2 Wireless pH Tester for Cheese) which is just another level, for around $150. I don't have to bother with the tool anymore, and can focus on my cheese!
