NETGEAR Orbi WiFi System

Cannot split bans which,I believe may be the issue with this. 5gHz is not a long distance frequency (should be known by most people now a days), and the Orbi forces the 2.4 and 5 on the same name and password and let's your device choose. Unfortunately, a decent amount of devices tend to try to stay in 5gHz even when you are ranged out. I constantly lost connection to the PS4, all the cell phones, and also the Amazon Fire sticks. After a few weeks I put the old Nighthawk back in and, though it's so old it is getting 50% of the speed which is why I replaced it, I haven't dropped once in a week now, which proved out that the issue is with the Orbi.

Got this for my parents. Their house is long and narrow, with the fiber optic broadband modem at one end of the house and the living room (which contains most of their connected devices) at the other. I placed the satellite about halfway in-between. I will have to say that while connectivity is now very good, speed is not really improved. Also, I wish there was some functionality built in for identifying the optimal location for the satellite. If there already is, I couldn't find it. For $200, I guess I expected more. If I had it do over, I think I would get a solid traditional ac router with good range and save some money.

I received my package, opened it, and the downloaded the Orbi app from the Apple Store. I had the system up and running within 10 minutes. I have a bit over 8,000sqft. house. I now have the same speed of internet at each corner of the house and also in my garage. Now that is AMAZING! Thank you NETGEAR!!!!

This review is for the RBK22 which is a 2 pack version with one router and a satellite mini AC2200 system. It can be purchased at C****O for $200 and $170 until 10/21 with no risk as it is returnable. I have a 3000' house that is long with rooms coming off a long hallway. My office with ISP 150MBPS connection and modem is at one end and my main TV; Roku; XBOX is at the other end. I have tried many things including a Nighthawk 7000 and currently use TPlink Powerline with wifi as the best compromise. I do not get more than 20MBPS wifi anywhere and sometimes only 5MBPS in dead spots. A friend recommended this. It was relatively easy to install using the IOS app; QR code and online help. It upgraded to latest firmware seamlessly. The IOS app is very basic and does not allow customization so I used a browser to login and set up. Using only the router, I got 40MBPS in the middle of my house and 10MBPS at the far end. I installed the satellite in the middle of my house and the results were amazing. I now get over 100MBPS anywhere in my house and almost full speed 150MBPS at the far end. It has been rock solid for 3 days with no drops that I have noticed.I recommend this highly and it is good value for money. There are ore expensive AC3000 options but no need to overspend. I have a single level. You might want the 3 pack if you have another floor or different shape house.CONS: Minor, but I don't like that the router has no indicator lights and as I said, you likely need a 4 port switch but this is not a problem really.

I have had to battle with my Orbi. I have had it since April this year (2019). First I will say that when it is connected to the internet and working its great, I can have the satellite in other rooms of the house and hard wire devices into it, all super convenient stuff. However I have BATTLED doing everything I can to try to get it to stay connected to the internet and it CONSTANTLY drops connection, I have to reboot the Orbi and Satellite EVERY SINGLE TIME. If you only reboot one it will not work. I have had Spectrum come out to my house like 7 times, they assure me that there is no internet drop-page on the modem I have had the modem replaced by them. I then tried to call netgear for support with the router. I have spent a total of (not an exaggeration) 5 HOURS on the phone with them over several (3) calls into support. They have me do the same stuff over and over I have tried every setting in the admin program, everything they can possibly think of nothing works. I have spent so much time on youtube and random forums changing settings etc to try to get it to work. (I am an IT professional and have a 4 yr in IT with a network security focus) so its not like I'm computer illiterate trying to get this to work. If someone can pose a solution that actually fixes this issue I would look at changing rating but at the current experience I have had it is extraordinarily troublesome.

UPDATE Downgraded to 1 star. After fighting setup for hours we were finally able to connect. But then dropped devices started. Any time we moved areas in the house our devices dropped and wouldn't reconnect.Netgear provides no support.Apparently if this system works it works well. When it doesn't it's worthless and infuriating.Returned for refund.__________Original ReviewI'm not sure how people find set up "easy peasy" There were almost no instructions and the app is of no help. It took us about 90 minutes and deep internet digging to finally figure it out. Critical steps were simply ignored in any Netgear provided instructions.The signal is good. But I would never buy this system again given the setup nightmare. Extremely frustrating experience. I hope it works now.

I had no signal in my room in my single floor 1300sq ft home. We tried all sorts of extenders to no avail. Orbi was perfect, powerful, easy to install. I am no techy, so the step by step screen instructions on my phone made it super easy to install it with my AT&T router/modem. 100%satisfied

Easy setup although only basic features. Good speed and range. Took a bit for satellite unit to connect but once connected, works fine.UPDATE.. I do not believe I will ever buy another Netgear product again. I have been having consistent issues with dropping internet connection and after 3 months of working with my ISP, they claim the problem is with the router and have since the beginning. After contacting Netgear support I was informed my 90 day phone support was over and would have to purchase a 3 month support contract for $50. If they deemed the issue to be with hardware, I would get my $50 back. What I am looking forward to is the "not my fault" response which leaves me out $50. I do not trust anyone who offers warranty support for money.

This unit really does the job! I have a condo with concrete walls and hallways - had a real problem getting wifi in important rooms. ORBI was the solution. Just a tad expensive.
