No. The neck is sewed so you can move the mouth and two legs, but you can not pull the head into the shell. There is a baby turtle and a large turtle than can pull the heads into the shell.

Q: can you make the head tuck in the shell?

Not really.....the head will pull back slightly into the shell but not like a regular turtle. If you want a turtle where the head will go all the way into the shell order Folkmanis' Turtleneck Turtle puppet.

Q: How do you make his mouth move

You put your hand in the top and thumb in the bottom. Moves easily. He has been a great hit with the kids at church. I love puppets and this one I can use and so can the young kids.

the puppet is half your hand in size

I was really disappointed with how much smaller the turtle actually is. The picture shows that the puppet covers your entire hand to the wrist. But in reality, the puppet covers about half of your hand! So it is a small puppet!!!on the upside, the puppet is cute when moving its legs and head.
