Great radio for the price. The receiver sensitivity is far better than I expected!
PROS: Covers 4 bands (would be nice if it did 220Mhz VHF band). Receiver has excellent sensitivity on all bands. Programming supported in CHIRP, making it easy to backup, update, and restore memory configuration. Excellent TX power select in 4 steps.Cons: You will need an antenna switch of some sort to be able to handle the spread as you probably wont be able to find or make an antenna that can do all four bands well enough and antenna switches dont work very well on 70cm band. Really needs two antenna connectors! One for 10m/6m and other for 2m/70cm.Noticed some glitches when using my Astron power supply as it doesnt shut off the power quickly but rather slowly ramps down to zero. This seems to randomly corrupt memory in the TH-9800D and I have had to do a factory reset on it a couple times. This can be worked around by turning off the radio before shutting down the power supply so I didn't deduct any stars for this issue as normal mobile operation would not affect it like this unless you run the vehicle battery completely dead over the winter or something.

Great Radio for the Money
In HAM radio, the sky is the limit for what you can spend on equipment. This TYT is pretty much a carbon copy of a Yeasu FT-9800 I think. You can even use the same programming cable. Programming, while a little quirky was pretty easy once I got used to the layout.I mostly use this radio for 2 meter and 70 centimeter because there's not too much 10 meter activity going on where I am.When connecting to my 2 meter tuned J-pole antenna, I was able to crank out a nearly true 50 watts off of this little guy. The mountain hardware it comes with for a car/truck is pretty basic, so be prepared to find something else when you get your. The power cable it came with was a fused stripped ~10AWG positive and negative leads. So you may need to buy adapter for your setup. The hand-held receiver works quite well and the sound is pretty good too. No issues there. Supposedly you can use this as cross-band repeater, but I haven't tried that yet.

No problems
I have seen a lot of bad reviews for the TYT TH-9800 but I have been using it for about 2 months with no issues. I have it paired with a Diamond CR8900 antenna.Update: after 1 1/2 years still no issues. It is now used as a base station for local repeaters connected to a Comet CX333 Tri-band antenna. It is not the quality of the Yaesu it copies but it works.

Perfect FM transceiver! Only lasted 4 years though
(had to remove one star on 14-09-2021 for short life) This is the ultimate FM transceiver for many bands and many services. The, "Plus," version is near perfect. AM receive has lots of fidelity. FM receive is probably the most sensitive receive I have ever experienced in a small, affordable, transceiver. Programming manually is actually relatively simple with the Plus version's updated manual. I did not order the data cable initially and was able to fully program bandwidth, Alpha tag, frequency, repeater type, offset, sub audible tone encode, and crossband repeat, manually. I do have a cable now so I expanded the receive and transmit. One can also make this radio 4 meters and the American 1.25 meters. I really enjoy this radio thoroughly. The only way it could be better is if it had AM transmit or Single Side Band transmit. The power advertised as the transmitted power are on spot. It is very forgiving on the voltages applied, 10 volts to 15 volts. The detachable face makes it that this transceiver can be used in any vehicle, or area with an appropriate voltage and current. Match it with the HH 9900 antenna for a winning combination!Listen in many services, and many frequencies, but keep it legal until the zombie apocalypse. When the rancid dead do emerge from their dormancy to feast upon your living flesh, you can stay several steps ahead by using your TYT TH-9800 Plus! Then transmit were you think you have to and when you think you have to. Until then, Citizen band, Police band, Fire Department band, Ministry of Defense, your govenement bands, marine bands, PMR446, GMRS, VHF CB, UHF CB, Railroad frequencies, amateur bands, weather broadcast frequencies, they are all yours! Use them responsibly by listening and not using the information for evil. Transmit only where you are allowed to legally. Get your amateur radio license and use the amateur and public bands only. Ofcom, Cancon, FCC, MIC, are listening so stay legal to your region. But the other bands are there when, and if, you will ever need them to transmit.Get your Tyt-th-9800 Plus today and be part of the resistance against the dead!By the way DO NOT ORDER FROM SECRET YEAHU. You will never get your murchandise.

I have had 2
I like the Radio, but to program it with Chirp is a has al.The radio files are DAT files and you can't cross program with chirp.I had to copy from radio to chirp, change or all to it and up load the same file to get it in radio. Not a fan of their program. I can't print from their programing software on printer even tho it has a print function. It comes up blank. May be me, but can't get it to print out. Just blank pages. Out put watts is very close to advertised within a few watts.Just got radio so still learning. Just the first thing I didn't like about it. Still playing with it. Up date..I have had two of them now, First one had two days started beeping would not stop. Got a replacement and had it two and half weeks and it stopped transmitting. Good radio when it works.
