WMF Profi Plus Garlic Press - Great Heavy Duty Press
I have had this WMF Profi Plus Garlic Press since July of 2014. I only paid $29 for it 6 years ago.Is it worth the $42 price tag in 2020? Maybe. It depends on how much garlic you need to press. I would purchase it again knowing how well it is made and how it holds up. In fact, I think it still looks "new".I can tell you that this is a heavy duty press. I simply remove the dry outer skin and put 2 or 3 cloves in the press at a time. It will "skin" the cloves while pressing. You can do this 3 or 4 times without having to scrape out the leftover skin.I do recommend, however, that you rinse it off with water immediately after you use it. Dried garlic is hard to get out of the tight spaces after it becomes hard.I have broken several $10 presses that you find in grocery stores. I wold go through about 3 or 4 per year. I have had this one for 6 years and it has seen a lot of garlic over that period. It does not bend. It feels like it will never break.I highly recommend this kitchen tool.

Impressive - Durably constructed - Virtually effortless opening
When this can opener arrives all one has to do is take one look at it and you can see that it is a serious instrument. It looks durable because it is made durable. Solidly constructed body.Regarding the component that you turn. Yes, it is a plastic component but it appears to be constructed quite well and was made to fit over and enclose the shaft that turns your cutting gears and blade. It is shaped like a wing and is actually quite thick. They designed a comfortable place for your fingers to fit while you spin that turning mechanism. I measured the thickness of that point where your thumb and index finger grip and spin it as being 7/16 of an inch thick. I can't forsee something that thick breaking with everyday use. At the mid-point of the wing, at the point where the axis of shaft is immediately underneath the wing it is 1/2 inch thick. It has a solid feel to it and feels quite comfortable while rotating it.As for the cutting mechanism, the top and bottom gears mesh nicely and firmly to provide a solid grasp on the top and bottom edge of the can - meaning no sliding or slipping. The sharp hardened blade cuts through the can with virtually no effort making it a joy to operate.I have to admit that at first sight it looks oddly shaped because the handles are angled to the remainder of the instrument at a less than 90 degree angle (see photo in product description). However, once I used the can opener I appreciated why they formed that angle; that angle eliminates any wrist and hand stress that is inherent in a conventionally constructed can opener that has it's handle bonded at a 90 degree angle. A nice ergonomic touch. I like this product very much, no more rust prone Swingaways for me, thank you.

HINTS for using this great slicer.
This is my 3 wire slicer and most like my first one that I just flat wore out. My 2nd on was an OSTI however it feels just unbalanced and, hmm, just cheap in my hands. This one is very well balanced, has a bit of weight to it and works quite well. Plus I love the stainless steel.HINTS:1) Yes, the wires will break. They will break more often if you are new to using these so buy a replacement set of wires. The OSTI ones work.2) When you put the wire one, tighten it very tight, at tight as your fingers will tighten it. I don't use pliers of any kind.3) Let it sit for at least 24 hours. They pull it out and re-tighten it.4) Check tightness every time BEFORE you use it. Loose wires will break easily.5) HARD CHEESES - at least Extra Sharp Cheddar - Do NOT just pull the cheese out of the fridge and start slicing. If you leave it out for maybe 10+ minutes you'll find it slices through quite easily.6) Lastly, GO SLOW. Don't try to pull it through like you're cutting butter because you aren't. Even soft cheeses I pull slowly. When observing the above, I can make 1 wire last for years. Forgetting even 1 of the above can break a wire in a day. I hope this will help someone. I've learned a lot just watching my adult kids break a wire instantly cutting cold cheese and trying to cut it like it's butter. Just go slow and all will work fine.

Garlic Press That Actually Presses Garlic
My previous garlic pressers before I purchase this one were all standard inexpensive types; they all needed force to squeeze the handles together, garlic squeezed up the sides because plunger was smaller than the press chamber, they left a good bit of garlic behind in the press and wasted bits that got stuck in the holes. Washing them was difficult and left smelly fingers.- With this one, when I press the handle the minced garlic oozes out like butter -- without requiring me to put `force'. The presser is designed so there is little room for garlic tidbits to move up the walls in the pressing movement, and very little get stuck/wasted in the holes that wash out with a stream of water. Once you press the handle it is done.- It produces finely minced garlic; the mesh size is neither too small nor too large - Because the garlic chamber is designed to swing out:a) I swing it out to scrape the thin garlic film from the chamber floor into the plateb) There is nothing left to scrape out with a knife tip before washingc) My fingers do not smell since the presser does its job so well that my contact with garlic is minimumAlthough the press chamber looks a tiny bit smaller than regular standard ones this presser handles 1 large or 2 medium size garlic cloves, which is the regular load for standard presses on the market -- so I am not holding that against it.Excellent performance -- without unpleasant surprises; this one will take all of the five stars.

So disappointed.
Ok. WMF typically makes great products. However, this WMF opener is trash. The opener is 90% solid metal and looks and feels solid. However, the turning mechanism, which is arguably the most important part of the opener is plastic, cheaply made and falls apart.I thought I had found an opener to last for years. In the end, It lasted about 2 weeks and is now being recycled.I can't advise on what opener to buy, but I can advise you not to buy this one.

Works well, just as advertised. Solid construction; bit pricey, is all or I'd have given 5*.
