Westcott Rapid Box Bowens Switch Insert (For FJ400, Bowens-S Type, Godox)

Good Product!

Once installed, this insert worked perfectly with a Godox S-type Bracket Bowens Mount Holder. Installation should have been easy; you just remove four phillips-head screws on the back of the Wescott Rapid Box Octa and swap out the default speedlite mount with the Bowens mount. The problem with my Rapid Box Octa is that the umbrella fabric was not positioned symetrically on the back of the unit, so the fabric was covering two of the four screw heads. It was difficult to push-pull the fabric away from the screw heads. I managed to do it without tearing the fabric, but it wasn’t easy, and I had to find blunt makeshift tools to help stretch the fabric away from the screw heads. Installation ideally would take about five minutes, but it took well over 30 minutes for me.This is not the fault of the insert, and my Rapid Box Octa is not one of the "Switch" models, which are allegedly designed to easily swap out different mounts. Installation probably would have been easier if I had a Rapid Box Switch Octa-S Softbox.

The 4 mounting screws are hidden under the material. I found using a hook tool to pull the material back gave me plenty of access to remove 2 screws and just loosen the other 2. Old mounting ring slid out and I was able to slide this in place. The material is nice and snug.

I needed to switch my Westcott light modifier from a flash mount to a Bowens mount and this was the perfect solution!

Westcott wasn't exactly honest when they created the rapidbox switch in the case that they didn't say it's essentially the same old rapidbox. By taking off 4 screws, you can switch the mount on the old rapidbox to this mount so that it works with flashes compatible with bowen. The price of this insert is a bit steep, but it's the cheapest and easiest option for my AD200.

Works well with the wescott beauty dish

Like the previous reviewer I used this to convert my 26” rapid box to a Bowens mount. The factory supplied speedlight ring is secured by 4 screws that you can remove and then replace with the Bowens insert. Combined with an S Mount bracket this insert makes mounting and.breaking down the rapid box a breeze

The westcott softboxes are very nice with a great build quality. With that said, Westcott charges a premium for their gear and tries to make things like these rings so that you can only buy from them. With most other gear, there would be off label rings like this for $5-$10. Westcott makes the flange a certain diameter and style that non of those work. I get angry at Westcott for doing things like this. At least it is metal and fits in the flash well. It’s the connection from this ring to the soft box that has movement and is wobbly.
