we are finishing a beautiful slab of walnut for use as a bar top. Slab has live edges on both sides and is very nice. I wanted a finish that would be durable but not encase this beautiful slab of wood in a thick layer of plastic looking epoxy or even poly. After considering Tung Oil and Danish Oil, I came across Osmo. It was a recommendation from someone who had heard about it but never used it, so I took that recommendation with a grain of salt. But after doing my homework, I was interested in giving it a try. I am almost done applying - final coat going on tonight. But I wanted to share my thoughts in case someone else out there is on the fence. Obviously, it will take some time to decide on the durability of this finish, but for both ease of application, and look / feel - this stuff is awesome.Super low odor and thick enough that it doesn't run all over the place and drip. There are a number of videos on youtube where people (my favorite was from Isak Ziegner) are using different techniques to apply. I used my stir-stick to dribble a stream of product onto my wood, and then used a plastic putty knife to work the product all around. Once the entire slab was covered with product, then used a non-scour white pad to work it into the wood, and then used rags to buff it off. Just that simple. We filled some cracks with a tinted epoxy, and this finish brought that sanded epoxy to life ! almost to a neon extent. We used one coat of the Osmo extra thin 1101 as a base coat on the top and sides of the slab, but not the bottom (didn't have enough product). Then a single coat of this PolyX on the bottom, and 2 coats of Poly-X on the top. Can't wait to see how it holds up over time. It feels very natural to the touch, and makes the grain really pop. And this stuff really does cover like it says on the label - one can goes a very very long way.Based on my experience so far, I don't see myself using any other finish for interior woodworking projects. It was designed for hardwood floors, and if I ever refinish my floors might even use it for that. And they make a UV protective product that seems good for outdoor use. So many more projects I need to tackle now that I have found Osmo....

Very good wood finish, just a bit expensive
We've used this for some projects now and it's great stuff. The final finish is very hard and and very beautiful. It's easy to apply and dries relatively quickly. Two coats give a very nice looking result.

Best overall finishing product I have ever used!
What can I say, I am a professional stair builder and have been always fighting the masking and taping and protecting the whole house from spray guns right! I heard through other tradesman that this product is plant based eco friendly and applies like a dream so I tried it on a recent projects handrail it was CVG Doug Fir even contacted the area rep for the Pacific Northwest he was the most knowledgeable and was happy to help me out the end result was spot on looking like a hand rubbed finish. Yes I would highly recommend this product for furniture, floors, and most wood surfaces just follow the instructions and remember to not to just brush it on like Varnish this product needs rubbed into the wood with a white scotch pad let dry over 8 hours then come back and sand with the Maroon scotchbrite pad with the grain then used Osmo's small brush to apply the final coat remember to brush it out dry almost use no more than 1/2" of the tip of the brush to retrieve finish from can then brush it out this was my method recommended by the Osmo's top rep!

Works well
i use Rubio for most of my builds. I was looking to use something new on smaller projects. This is red cedar. I was very impressed with the finish. Only issue is, per instructions you need to apply two coats with sanding between coats. Rubio mono coat only needs one.

Great woodworking finish
This is the second purchase of the Osmo Polyx Oil system. I really like how easy it is to apply and how professional the results look. So far I have used the hard wax oil on rift sawn red oak, walnut, jatoba, olive wood and hard maple. The results on all but the hard maple have been excellent. I think that I should have used the thinner version on the hard maple project. I was initially apprehensive about starting with the product as it is very expensive, but after using on some projects, the quality of the finish and the ease of completing the applications have made me reconsider. My first purchase of the Osmo hard wax was used on some pull out drawers for the kitchen. I made three oversized drawers from red oak and oak plywood and was able to get two coats on the drawers from the .125 L can. Highly recommended.
