Best iron & great price, works well for both heavy fabrics/sewing as well as for delicates
After 15 year of owning ohe Rowenta iron, with only one repair, it bit the dust. Assuming I would buy another Rowenta I was surprised to see all of the reviews mentioning that the quality had really gone downhill. I bought this iron after reading all the reviews, but was a bit doubtful given it's low price in comparison to Rowenta. This iron was also the one available for pressing in an advanced sewing class I used and the instructor recommended this iron. I have used it now for about 30 hours of ironing time and can state that this iron is better than my old Rowenta. The only difficult thing is to see how much water is in the tank as the blue plastic is not as easy to see through as clear plastic. TIt is important not to overfill it as that just causes water to run out onto the board, but that is what overfilling causes in any steam iron. The steam tank lasts much longer than the Rowenta, and it's blast of steam works wonders on heavily wrinkled linen, heavy denim and cotton. It is not too heavy, and glides easily. It's fantastic for sewing, the blast of steam instantly presses seams without leaving them wet. I have also ironed silk chiffon and charmeuse (with pressing cloth), silk tweed, rayon challis, nylon - all perfect using the heat settings the instructions recommend. The retracting cord is great for storage, though I'd be careful to retract is carefully as is the case with all retractable cords similar to one in a vacuum cleaner. If you like to iron and need a strong performing iron, this is the one for you.

Have owned an iron like this in the past and enjoyed using it. Chose to purchase another iron like the one I used for years until it broke.

Loving my new iron and so happy with my purchase!
I love everything about this iron! Over the past 40+ years, I have owned dozens of irons in this price range, and this is the first one that has not had leakage issues. Yay! I recently bought some 100% cotton lined floor-length curtains, and I had to lay them out on the floor to iron them. My previous iron leaked with almost every stroke, even when the reservoir was only half full. But I was able to iron every inch of these 84 X 96 curtains without a single drop of water dripping on them. The iron is larger than others I have used, so that also made the whole process easier. The results were beautiful. I'm so happy - and impressed!I love the retractable cord and the auto-shutoff feature. It has a generous water reservoir, heats up quickly, has sufficient heat, and glides smoothly across the fabric. I didn't have the best of luck with the vertical steam feature. I tried to remove some wrinkles from a fabric shower curtain, some sheer curtains, a silk dress, and 100% cotton floor-length curtains, and I saw no noticeable difference after several shots of steam. In all fairness, I have never used any vertical steamer, even a dedicated one, so I have nothing to compare it to. Although I was hoping for better results with the vertical steam, it's not a deal breaker for me because all the other features are so wonderful. All in all, I love this iron and look forward to many years of use.

Really, really good iron....see 2 year update.
I almost returned this iron. I always check Amazon's customer reviews before buying anything, and this iron had lots of 5-star ratings. The first time I used it, I didn't get what all the excitement was about. It was slow to heat up, didn't get hot enough, etc... I decided to give it a chance and am I ever glad that I did. It needed a little while to 'break in'. It does everything it says it will do - great burst of steam, good positioning of the spray nozzle, and gets plenty hot. I use it for both quilting and dressmaking. Tip: use a wet 'magic eraser' to clean the soleplate - it almost melts the gunk away with little or no scrubbing.UPDATE. while this iron worked I really did like it. It is now two years later and the iron died. It began a month ago with sputtering and leaking rusty spots on my fabric, so I gave it a really good interior clean (which did nothing to remedy the problem). Then, last week it just stopped heating completely. I am an avid quilter and used this iron a LOT for long periods at a time. So all in all I probably got my $40 worth. I probably should've emptied the water from my iron at the end of a quilting session, but didn't. Perhaps that's part of the reason for the Rusty scale build-up? I'm replacing this iron with the Rowenta Pro series- double the price- hope it's worth it.

Cord comes out, cord goes in - the rest is what an iron is supposed to do
I think over my lifetime I've had all sorts of irons - cheap to expensive; electric to cast-iron; full size to travel. I have to say, this iron is my favorite to date. The bottom is made so smooth that it just glides over my clothing without any issues. No snags, no gunk, nothing! The reservoir is amazingly easy to fill and the temperature gauge is easy to set. It has the ability to steam and to "spritz" your clothing with water if you want a little extra wrinkle removing power. The best feature, however, in my mind is the cord. It rewinds into the iron. I know that is a simple pleasure, but really - one that should be included on all irons. No muss, no fuss, just a button and away it goes. See, that wasn't so hard. Why don't all irons include this feature? I know this iron is touted as being one that doesn't "spit" on your clothes while you're ironing and I can attest, that is true. I know it has a great weight to it and solid construction too. I know that the bottom is so dang smooth that I wonder if it is even doing anything (warning, do not touch to test on this particular point). I also know that Sunbeam makes a great product, but what I didn't know was that I'd actually enjoy ironing my clothes if I had the right tools. Who would have guessed?Overall, this iron does everything it says it will and then some. Well-built and reasonably priced, I am not certain why I'd ever switch from this product. If you're in the market for an iron, give this a shot and you'll be glad you did.
