HART SCHAFFNER MARX Men's Mcquade Wool Coat

I expected this coat to be nice, but it is better than I expected. I am 5'10" and 225 lbs, with fairly broad shoulders and 34" arms, and the XL was the right size for me. It leaves enough room to layer a sweater or fleece and not be too tight, and the sleeves are long enough to cover my suit jacket sleeves. It is fairly thick and heavy, with non removable quilted insulation in the body - feels like it will be perfect for moderately cold to cold winter climates in northern Europe. The workmanship is very good. It has two roomy external slash pockerts, and three internal pockets: one zipper, and two with buttons. My only complaint would be with the zipper on the interior pocket which seems too frail and small to last as long as the coat will. All in all a great buy - especially if you can get it on sale. As for the color, I got the black which is actually more of a dark charcoal color (since it has very nice grey flecks through out the fabric). I am happy that the black color it is not jet black or solid black, as I think the black fabric I purchased looks very classy. FYI, I have tried suits, sport coats, and winter coats from Cole Haan, Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Nautica, etc.... and find the fit in the 48R to be tight through the chest and shoulders, this is not the case with any of the Hart Schaffner items. I like the way their jackets/coats fit me in the chest and shoulders as there is slightly more room in that area.

I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He is about 6 feet tall and weighs 195 with a belly. The large fit him perfectly with a little room to spare for heavy sweaters if he wants. It's not too dressy and not too casual which is why I liked it. The only reason it doesn't get five stars is that the hems on the bottom and the sleeves are sewn with a straight stitch, so it shows on the top of the fabric. This is just cheapo poor tailoring. However, he has a nice cashmere coat with proper stitching if we go somewhere. This is mostly for work and dates with me, and it looks sharp!

This is a great coat. I'm 5'8" 180lbs and wear a 40R suit and this coat fits fine. I was looking for a slim fit coat but bought this to check it out. Although it could use a little bit of tailoring for a bit tighter slim fit to be much more fashionable, overall it's a great coat. The coat is similar to what Nordstrom sells for over $300. I have not tried it in really cold weather so I don't know if it will keep a body warm. The coldest I've used the coat is about 30 F (-1C) and it kept me warm. It's a good deal and a great coat.

Fits as expected, good quality. I thought all Hart Schaffner Marx products were made in USA, this is made in China. The only complaint is the coat and zipper have an odd smell. Hopefully it will wear off over time. This is a great casual coat, not a dressy coat.
