I plan on using this can opener, solely, for the rest of my life.
This product gets the job done, and is satisfying to use.I prefer it to an electric can opener, or any other manual can opener, because it is unique, and fun to use. Also, it's compact, easy to use, and mechanically simple. As far as I'm concerned, no other can opener can stand up to the Nogent Super Kim Safety Can Opener, and I would happily become the spokesperson for this product in the United States. This can opener is like the Lamy Safari of can openers, it is beautifully engineered and fairly inexpensive. If you want a cool can opener that works fantastic, takes up little space, and doesn't depend on electricity -- this is the can opener for you.

THE. BEST. CAN. OPENER
I don't usually yell in my reviews, but this opener is outstanding!Opens cans with half the effort of all my prior, and more expensive, can openers.I've tried all different types (including the "no sharp edges" side-openers), and this is better by far.Pros:1) Less effort required to turn handle2) Does not spin the can (which can mar countertops) -- instead it travels around the can3) Leaves the inside of the can very smooth - helps food slide out and it's safer to reach inside the can4) Does not leave any sharp edges around the top of the can (unlike some side-openers)5) Works great with cans of ANY size6) Takes up far less drawer space compared to a typical can opener (great for camping too!)Cons:1) The edge of the lid might be sharp (but it will fit nicely back inside the can once it's empty)2) Might take a couple tries to get the hang of how to properly remove it after opening the can3) Does not include bottle-opening or can-piercing attachments on the device, as typical openers doThis opener is fantastic for what it does. If you want something with bells & whistles, look elsewhere. But if you want something that simply opens cans all day and all night, this is the one you want.

Simple, Solid, Works Great, a little costly
Love this can opener. Aside from the electric opener, this is our favorite for a manually operated can cutter.Pros:- Cuts perfectly- Doesn't slip / Grips can well- Easy to attach- Easy to remove (just slight turn in reverse fully releases)- Glides fine on can- Large wings provide reasonable leverage for ease of turning. They are not the easiest we have ever tried but they feel to rank right up near the top of not being difficult to turn, at all. Better than reasonable.- Consume very little space / super compact without the long handles in the way - perfect for storage, esp. when space is a concern.- Great for camping or backpacking!Cons:- A little costly for the amount of metal but then again, NOT cheap Chinese knock-offs, either.Final thoughts:- Love the product- Wish cost was lower- Highly Recommended- Would buy again if I needed another - may buy another anyway, just for travel!

Great can opener (just a couple uses so far)
I haven't opened many cans with this Nogent yet, but it worked wonderfully the times I did. It was kind of tricky to get it to latch onto the can my first attempt, but once I figured it out it works great. The inside of the can gets pressed smooth all around, so no worries about getting cut. It was easy to turn and has large wings to push/grip in order to spin. This relives pressure on any specific point or on individual fingers, which I assume would be helpful for anyone with arthritis/joint pain. Now just to see how long it holds up. My more traditional "original" can opener with the disc cost almost as much as this and lasted only about 10 cans before skipping in cuts. I'll change my review if this Nogent can opener fails any time soon.Edit: Several cans in and I like it more and more. Works great on squared cans. Easy to get on and off now that I'm familiar with it. I may buy a couple as presents.

Good tool, with a big caveat
I bought this opener three years ago, thinking I had finally found a permanent solution to the problem of crappy modern can openers. “Solid steel! What could break?”It is indeed a very compact, effective can opener that gives good service and *should* be virtually bulletproof. (More on that shortly.) It can occasionally be a little tricky to use on cans of very small size (think tomato paste) or slightly unusual design. It is not *quite* as easy to use as a standard can opener with handles. With that said, I like it better than the competition. However, after two years and eleven months the toothed wheel that engages the rim of the can and drives the opener became too worn to do its job—making the tool useless. I had to replace it.This problem could be easily fixed by using hardened, high carbon steel for that toothed driving wheel. I’m a little disappointed that the manufacturer seems to have designed this tool with planned obsolescence in mind, especially given what it costs. Thus the four-star review.

Small Wonder
I have had other "safety can openers" but none come close to the ease of operation and effectiveness of this little gem from Nogent. You do need to pay attention about placement of the opener on the can at first - once you see how to place the blade and guides then its a no-brainer; I can do it with my eyes closed - just by feel. The blade is super sharp and the handle is easy to rotate - even for a septuagenarian. Very easy to clean; when needed. Actually requires less cleaning than my regular can opener. Does require occasional oiling - easy to do; just a drop. I use tea seed oil that I have for my knives but any vegetable oil will do. Easy to store and travel with as well - one of the best kitchen gadgets I have ever acquired.
