I had a couple other poorly designed salt grinders I haven't liked--difficult to load without mess, a pain to adjust, salt hardened and became unusable.That experience drove me to Oxo, because in the past I've had a good experience with its products. This one exceeded my expectations. Not only is it beautifully designed for simple adjustment of grind and re-loading, but it's also sleek looking on my counter--which I didn't expect from the picture.PROS:Easy to use adjustment lever for grind size, with a wide range of choices and a very nice big easy-to-read scale. Lever is located on the top, where you need it if you are adjusting on the go while grinding.Grinding mechanism works smoothly and lets out a perfect amount of salt--not so slow it's annoying but not so fast you'll end up with the ocean in your soup.Bottom opens easily and grinder sits flat so you can insert more salt when empty. It's also got large loading holes so you won't end up with salt all over the counter. Score!Very sleek and modern looking on the counter.CONSI really can't think of any! I haven't used it for long so I'll update in a few months on how its longevity holds up and whether salt hardens and clogs it.Note: I have read you put rice in grinders to keep the salt from hardening and sticking. I have trouble wrapping my brain around this as...won't the grinder grind the rice into your food? I know it's harmless but I don't want rice in my food with my salt....so I"m hoping this one is designed to make the clogging problem less frequent.

It's nice, it's comfortable, it's easy to use, it looks good in a kitchen or on a dining table. Best feature is the top-hole design, which prevents dumping dust every time you set it down like those other, bottom-hole grinder designs from other companies.The big con of this grinder is that no matter what setting you select with the selector knob, the pepper always comes out in a mixed consistency. The *grinder* is the shortcoming of this grinder.
