So simple to apply
I purchased these a full year ago. I'm the type of person that likes the idea of DIY, but then I find it difficult to start. I don't like to write in a clean journal or begin a project that I might get wrong. I shouldn't have waited so long. I cleaned the tub yesterday and rubbed it down with alcohol as suggested in the instructions and then got to work. It's basically a sticker kit with two sheets of rough surfaced stickers. The instructions are clear and they provide two design templates that you can use. I adapted mine a bit, but found the suggestions helpful. I wasn't satisfied with how I placed one of the stickers so I pulled it up and tried again. It seems just as secure as the rest. I purchased the clear stickers and I'm very satisfied with how it looks. I took a bath today and though I thought it might be uncomfortable, it was just fine. I can't speak to how this will wear over time, but the package has clear instruction on how to reach the manufacturer. That to me means that the manufacturer stands behind their product. It wasn't a big investment so if it needs to be reapplied in a year or two, that would be fine too. It's much nicer than a bath mat which I've always hated because they seem to get dirty and slimy even if removed to dry after every use. I feel much safer now showering. Slipping in the shower is very dangerous so if your shower is as slippery as mine, I suggest you purchase this item too.July 2016 - we've had these in our tub for over six months and they still look clean and nice. I wasn't certain that they would last and am very happy that they have. I just ordered another set for our other bathtub. It makes the tub much safer and I highly recommend them.

good insurance, requires maintenance
The non-slip daisies and butterflies were peeling off the shower floor after 35 years. I was glad until I discovered that the floor was treacherous. The most important place was where I stood to wash my hair and face, with eyes closed and no hand on the bar. That’s where I put a few of these strips to test. After cleaning as instructed, I used toilet paper to get the floor really dry. With soapy feet, I got good traction on the new treads, but I also got good traction where there were no treads. It seems a shower floor isn’t treacherous if it’s clean. After that, I would check the floor with my finger to see if it was squeaky clean. To clean a shower, I like to put a tablespoon of washing soda and a tablespoon of borax on the floor, put on rubber gloves, and get a wet cloth. Borax is a soft abrasive, and washing soda turns soap scum into soap. Letting it sit a few minutes can help. The old butterflies and daisies interfered with cleaning. The new strips aren’t as bad because they’re thinner and the sides are straight.Major cause of slimy floorOne day I slipped and stubbed my toe as I stepped in, where there were no treads. The floor was slimy. That baffled me. In more than a year of checks, it hadn’t felt slick. I was glad I’d put treads on the most important area.I cleaned the floor, but the day after my next shower, I was slick again. I cleaned it again. This time it stayed clean.Between that last shower and the one before, I’d soaked my feet in a gallon of water with perhaps a tablespoon of borax and two tablespoons of bleach. I do that occasionally to prevent athlete’s foot. Besides killing fungi, it “melts” dead skin. It appears that dead skin on feet can leave nutrients to feed microbes that can make a shower floor slimy overnight, and that soaking feet can prevent this.Disappointing adhesiveAfter more than a year, the end of one tread came loose. I cleaned the surfaces and used cement. It has held. After more than two years, the end of another tread came loose, and half of a third one came loose. In these cases, the adhesive remained stuck to the floor, and the tread came off the adhesive. I’d call that a defect in the adhesive. I replaced one tread and cemented the end of the other.Shower shoes?Nonslip shower shoes are advertised. I wish I knew if any would work on a slimy floor. For now, treads are insurance, in case a floor is slimy and I fail to check with a finger or toe.

These work!
The strips come in a sheet that you have to separate. Not difficult to pull apart. Arrange the strips in your tub (make up your own pattern) and the leave them there. A little masking tape helped keep them in place. One at a time, peel the backing off and put the strip back where it was. Press each with your fingers to set them in place. Do the same for each strip. Use something plastic and fairly stout (shampoo bottle lid) to really stitch each one in place. I bought the clear ones and could see the color change as I stitched each one. Let them set overnight. First shower was a surprise! They are fairly smooth, but definitely rough enough to keep my feet in place! Very reassuring! I've only had them in there a week, but so far, they have been very effective in keeping my feet put! Don't know how long they'll last or if they'll get moldy around the edges, but I can finally shower without worrying about falling!

Decent but not perfect..
I expected a bit more durability. After a couple of weeks, a few edges started peeling slightly, even though I cleaned and dried the surface thoroughly before applying them. They also don’t feel quite as grippy as I hoped when the tub is really wet.

The Clear color is blue!
So disappointing. I have ordered these adhesive strips in the Clear color in the past. I re-ordered the Clear color yesterday and this time it shows up as blue. It looks terrible. I want these strips to look as transparent and hidden as possible. (You can see the new, bluish strips compared to the older true-clear strips in the photo.)Do not order the Clear color if you’re striving to make the strips look hidden/transparent.
