I thought the directions were pretty good, yes there are a lot of sixteenth measurements but as long as the support bar is very level you are probably good.The supports didn't align to studs so I tore out some drywall and put backing 2x4s in place. I also used a 1x4 hardwood on top of the drywall but the support screws really should go into something solid if possible.I used double thick 3/4" plywood which worked great (with a faux finish) but was a pain to carry from the workshop.Biggest mistakes:The best way to secure the base is a groove in the bottom, I'm going to take it down and route it- wish I'd done that originally.You can make the width several inches wider than just 36"- the rollers hit a bumper that limits size but the door can extend as far as you want beyond the roller. I wish I'd gone with 40" rather than 38" for more overlap.

This worked well for an exterior woodshop using the 10 foot rails for a 5 foot door heavy doorIt was my first barn door, so I wasn’t certain of the quality of the product that I would get.The rails and rollers are both made of heavy duty bar steel and it included quite a bit of fasteners for all types of wallsThe directions were brief, but they covered all the key areas for a DIY installerI’m happy with the product and would recommend it. I would certainly get it again for both an interior or exterior use

UPDATE: Vendor immediately reached out and offered replacements, EXCELLENT customer service so changing my rating to a full 5 stars. Gr8 job!!Installed without a hitch and I like the design and functionality. The pic below shows how great it looks. There is however one important short coming that the manufacture NEEDS to address. The slide stops have a pair of black bumpers that prevent the metal to metal contact and sound. 4 of the 4 bumpers have fallen out and will not re-seat which is unfortunate. The manufacture needs to redesign them so they do not fall out with normal use. I will upgrade to 5 stars if they have a fix for this issue.

The hardware is great! The diagrams and writing on the diagrams was small. I had to take a picture with my phone and zoom in. I recommend watching a video on YouTube prior to installing and pay very close attention to how much space to leave between the top of the door and the hardware (which determines where to drill the holes) AND allows for enough space for the safety bumpers to fit between the top of the door and hardware. This was not clear on the instructions which resulted in the need to drill another set of holes in the door to allow for this extra space. Aside from this, the install went well!

I purchased 2 sets of the double door hardware kit and we were very pleased to see that it was such great quality. You can definitely purchase this item with confidence. My friend installed this for me (he used to have a barn building business) and he could not believe that I was able to get this high quality material from Amazon.Best of all, if I had purchased this locally, it would have cost me twice as much money; so I am very excited to have saved so much money!The only suggestion I have for the seller is to stop using the post office to deliver this item. Where I live, we have a mail center and the postal worker didn't want to deliver it to my door because "it fit in the mailbox" her logic was that since it was narrow enough to fit in the locker box, she didn't have to deliver it to the house. I explained to her that a six foot long box does not fit in a 1 foot long box. (she had the rest of it propped up on a box inside the mailroom. Seller, please use UPS or Fedex. I almost returned it because of this but fortunately she finally relented and delivered it to the door after much argument.

Had a barn door installed in a small, recently remodeled powder room. The room wasn't really big enough for a standard door and consequently, the door hit the toilet and never opened all the way. This was the perfect solution to our problem. Our contractor had never installed a barn door and was a little disappointed in the instructions included with the hardware. Ultimately he found some videos which answered his remaining questions and the installation was a success. We thought we could use a spare door we already had, but barn doors are taller than standard, so we needed a new door too. Otherwise, the price was right, quality was good, and the new door looks great!~

I have to say this is a great choice for barn door hardware.It's inexpensive compared to many others. It's super strong; my door easily weighs 90# and this hardware handles it with ease. The finish (brushed nickel) is very smooth and attractive. It rolls extremely smoothy, with practically no effort at all. This is a winner.As others have said, you will likely need to install a header board (2x4) which you can screw into your studs. And then you can screw the track into the 2x4. The pre-drilled holes in the track may or may not line up with your studs.Can't go wrong with this one.
