RevellMaverick's F-14A Tomcat

Best priced model for the scale that I could find. You have to pre-fit pieces and some required some fine adjustments to fit. Wish building with landing gear up was an option.

I bought both this F-14 Tomcat and the newer F/A-18 “Maverick” kit in 1/48 scale. My 13 yo son built the F-14 all by himself. I think this is his 3rd or 4th model kit he’s built. Kit comes ONLY with 1 pilot. My son borrowed the back seat pilot from another kit. Painted the whole thing with Valero and Testor’s Model Master Acrylic paints. He used a airbrush and compressor kit to paint the exterior. Came out great and he really enjoyed building it as much as he enjoyed watching the “TOP GUN” movie for 1st time. In my opinion, this kit can be easily and completely painted by hand without the need for a airbrush.

I’m not an experienced builder and I’ve heard that this kit’s parts do not fit well, but we’ll see. It is not as pricey as the competition and it seems to be a nice kit looking at it after opening. Time will tell once I start building.

Awesome model

This model is cheaper than the Tamiya model but nowhere near as detailed and fitment goes. Revell says it's a level 4, but if you want a really clean build, it's a level 5. There's just too much sanding and blending to make the parts fit without gaps. What's really disappointing is that it only comes with the pilot. I guess Goose had already ejected. I built the Tamiya 1:48 scale F-14 about 30 years ago and that model seemed a lot larger. Makes me wonder if this really a 1:48 scale model. Tamiya model also had the glove vanes deploy when you swept the wings and a cleaner mechanism.I'm not real happy about this model but it was 1/2 the price of the Tamiya F-14.
