is this st2000dm001 new or used and what is the differance between the baracudda and the desktop HDD ?

The one I bought was brand new. In regards to the difference, I do not know.

Probably used! I bought one a couple of years ago and installed it, and realized recently it didn't ever work properly. The date of manufacture was 2013. Seagate did not recognize the seller, and thus I had no warranty protection. I advise you to buy it directly from Seagate.
