Q: Are there plugs to cover the holes on the sides of the bookshelf?

Yes, but they stick out and don't fit in the holes very well. They are hard to put in, honestly. The whole bookshelf was a pain to put together. It took hours. Looking back I would buy a different one.

Q: Is this really Walnut or Cherry wood?

No- pretty sure they're all pine or similar. Solid wood at least

It should look exactly like in the picture, we had to send a couple of them back because they were defective. If you call amazon, they can pick it up from the front of your door, because it’s a big box.
