Lots of features for a good price point
I installed the printer today and so far I'm very happy with it.Since it's close to my FiOS router, I connected it with a network cable and it was immediately visible on all my computers thank you to the WSD protocol. No USB cable needed for print and scan, no lengthy setup process on the PCs: it worked right out of the box. You need a USB connection only if you want to push the scan from the MF to the PC, but that was expected.Setting up the scan-to-mail took me a bit longer, because I could not find the SMTP port settings (my provider uses SSL and port 587 as opposed to the standard port 25). It turned out that the SMTP port setting was in a separate "port configuration" section of the settings, instead of being together with the other scan-to-mail settings. Once this was fixed, the scan to mail worked great, I love the fact that you can assign speed dials to send a scan to your most used mailboxes so it only takes a single push of a button to scan to your email. You can also customize the entire touch panel's menu and put your most used functions on the first of the 4 pages available, for faster access. The print quality is very good and so is the quality of the scanned pictures, both operations are also quite fast.I love the automatic duplex printing and scanning. Scanning from the sheet feeder is fast enough, although the scans are not perfectly straight when taken from the feeder... maybe I need to use thicker paper, I'll experiment a little bit.I could setup Google Cloud Print in just a few minutes... but it doesn't work! After searching on the Web for hours, I found out that it's a known issue with several printer brands, who did not implement the GCP standard properly. The setup works, but the printer keeps showing offline on the Google Cloud website and you cannot print anything from it, no matter how many times you reinstall the printer and try to reconnect it. Canon printers seem to be the worst one for this issue, so don't buy this printer if Google Cloud Printing is a must for you. You can still use GCP when a connected PC is running (it kind of defeats the purpose of GCP, though). On the other hand, air print works perfectly on all my Apple devices, I did not have to setup anything, it just worked when I turned the printer on. There is also a "direct connection" feature that you can use with your guests: the printer acts as an access point and the guest's PC can connect to it without the need to share your Wi-Fi password.Overall, it's a great printer with a lot of useful features and a minor flaw (the faulty Google Cloud Print) which I hope will be fixed at some point with a firmware upgrade.

Great printer for the price!
I did a lot of research before buying a printer this time because the last two I've bought have fallen apart or sucked up ink faster than I could ever imagine. I went with this printer based on favorable Amazon reviews compared to competitors. I have had it for about six months and use it to print scholarly articles for grad school; so I don't use it at heavy volume. With that said, it has worked like a charm 99% of the time, which is more than I had hoped for in a printer these days. The few times it didn't work were 2x it wouldn't wake up to print (plugged directly into the wall socket, wouldn't wake up upon manually touching the wake up button either; woke up after unplugging and replugging, and then promptly printed), and 2 paper jams so far. I could not find a reasonable explanation for the jams, I was not printing massive quantity, and I use a good quality paper. The jams were easy to clear. The print quality is great for black and white. It's perfectly sufficient for the articles I print and it doesn't lose quality on the images in the articles. It's difficult to read color graphics in the black and white, but I think that's an artifact of color graphics being changed into grayscale and not the printer's fault.I have not tried to fax or scan functions.Additionally, the set up was easy enough. I was able to set it up wirelessly without issue. I also tested and print functionality works from my Windows laptop, my Andriod phone, and my Apple iPad when on the same network as the printer. I have not tried printing by other means since they are not relevant to my situation. All in all, after about 500 or so pages of printing, it was easy to set up, the print quality is great, and it's been reliable. I didn't think I could find those three things in a printer anymore without spending a ton of money, so this printer is definitely worth it!

Canon MF249dw-Beware if you plan to use it with Apple products
BEWARE if you use Apple products. I would suggest that you thoroughly investigate this product before buying it if you are a Mac user. Based on the many favorable ratings I have to assume that this product must be better suited for a PC. I can’t see anyway a Mac user would recommend this printer. Initial set up was not straight forward. Had to download printer and scanner drivers, not a big deal. Initially I was able to get it to print with my phone but getting it to recognize my computer for printing and scanning was something else. I had to get help from Canon support to get scanner to work (they were very helpful). I got everything working one day and next day had connectivity issues. Or it would go into sleep mode and then I couldn’t get it to wake up and print. It never had a problem connecting to my WiFi but is just didn’t communicate correctly with the iPhone or the MacBook computer consistently. I spent hours trying to get it to work but finally gave up and sent it back after three frustrating days of trying to get it to work reliably. It just shouldn’t be this hard. I’m sure it’s a good printer but I sure would consider other printers before selecting this one if you use Apple products.
