I go to a gym regularly, end with a shower and always cautious with my foot care. I have used Desenex foot powder since my U.S. Army days- did a lot of walking and running in the service and foot care was a priority. I'm now in my 70's and never had an issue with my feet- won't change something that has worked for me for decades.

We live in hot and humid Southwest Florida where conditions most of the year are beneficial for the growth of mildew and fungus. Not surprisingly I developed fungus on my toenails that was resistant to every treatment I tried. My feet needed to breathe so I was wearing sandals most of the time I was out of the house but having nail fungus isn't the most attractive way to meet friends and influence enemies. The other problem is that I work outside a lot doing home maintenance and landscaping on our property and it's important to protect my feet from falling branches, fire ants, dropped tools, and other potentially injurious events. So hot weather combat boots have become my footwear of choice.When I finally bit the bullet and visited a podiatrist he surprised me by observing that my nail fungus had actually progressed to between my toes and up the bottom of each of my feet. I had no idea it had progressed that far but quickly thought back to the jungle rot Vietnam Vets struggled with all the time while "in country". Conditions here are very similar to those in Vietnam and jungle rot had obviously taken root in my boots. Now I use a prescription nail fungus cure along with a prescription cream good for athlete's foot and the like. I also dose my combat boots with Desenex before and after I use them to reduce the potential for harboring more fungus. Using the Desenex and properly airing out the boots should take care of the problem. If not my podiatrist will have a pair of hoary feet to deal with the next time I see him.
