Great when used for their true purpose.
Needed good, sterile dishes in a pinch so I resorted to Amazon. The first batch I ordered came advertised as sterile, however they arrived in a perforated sleeve, thus, non-sterile. Another batch arrived with damaged sleeves, thus, non-sterile. Took another chance on these, and they arrived fully intact and in a sturdy plastic sleeve, free of any damage. The dishes are good quality, sterile, and served their purpose. To address some of the negative reviews... Some people complained about the size; 60x15mm is clearly shown in the description. Some people complained that the lids are oversized and don't "snap" into place. What? Petri dishes lids are traditionally held on by gravity, and have a slightly tapered lid to make working with them easier. Some people complained that they weren't individually packaged; yet petri dishes are always sold in sleeves at a quantity of 10-25 per sleeve, and rarely, if ever individually packaged. Some people complained that they were made of thin plastic; yet I found these to be fairly sturdy for your run-of-the-mill dishes. Disposable petri dishes are always going to be thin plastic, and not designed to be heavy duty.Well, I think that about covers it. If you're going to use these dishes for their true use, as in, sciency stuff - then they will work out just fine for you. They're a bit overpriced compared to most disposable dishes, however it's to be expected to pay a premium to have a low quantity of quality dishes quickly delivered to your door.If you plan in using them for some kind of storage or other unconventional use, then perhaps you should take heed and note my explanation above.

Perfect for mind control projects
As an evil scientist working on a limited budget, I appreciate finding a great value like these plastic Petri dishes. They are perfect for cultivating my new Generation 7 Brain Virus, which will allow me to remotely control an army of human drones in a complete conquest of East Council Bluffs, IA.Look, it's important to set *achievable* goals. My fellow evil colleagues have all failed not due to a lack of evilness, but because they insisted on WORLD DOMINATION [scary music] right from the get-go! I'm more process-oriented and have decided to start with a small part of a town nobody will miss too much. When I get to Phase IV of my plan, well, many a worldwide trouser will know what it means to be soiled on that day, I can assure you!I would have been finished with Phase I by now if not for the troubles I had with Generations 1 through 6 of the Brain Virus. With my aforementioned limited budget, I didn't use Petri dishes for my cultures. Instead, I was using soup cans, milk cartons, and my nephew's sippy cup. Sorry, Timmy! You'd think that mind control over a 2-year-old could solve a few behavior problems, but NOOOO. The best I can do is to get him to stop turning off the hotplate when I'm heating up a batch of evil chemical goo which only smells like hot chocolate but totally isn't.Well now that I've got the Karter Scientific Petri Dishes, my fortunes are about to turn around! And woe to the future drones of E. Council Bluffs!Note - I found that a small piece of weatherstripping foam on the outer upper edge of the bottom half of the dish will allow the lid to stay more securely attached. You wouldn't want your Brain Virus escaping before it's ready! (Sorry, Mom!)

I bought these for the game Pandemic.
I was on the search for these after seeing Wil Wheaton use them in his game of Pandemic. It seemed so convenient and pretty much perfect with the game theme. I saw another reviewer say these were perfect for Pandemic so I bough them immediately. The size is perfect, yet too small at the same time. I say perfect because they fit all the cubes and fit in the box. I say too small because they are so small that getting pieces out can be a pain when the petri dish is on the full side. NOT enough to deter me from wanting these by any means. Also, be careful if you plan on toting your game around places; petri dishes are not what you would call "tight fitting"... or anything close to that. The lids are an extremely loose fit. Also, not that I have much experience with petri dishes for scientific purposes. but I doubt these are sterile in any way. The bag I received was definitely beat up in some places.I'll upload pics so you can get an idea of the size if you want them for Pandemic.

Clear, Vented, Sinkable, Practical, Inexpensive
I go through lots of these each and every summer and they have many uses.I often do macro/micro photography of insects and we need to keep them controlled for video purposes. The plastic is very clear, no tint, no light distortion. Place live spiders, bees, wasps etc in them with confidence as they have built-in spacers for air to pass through around the edges.Another Amazon Customer asked if they will sink in water. YES, if you let the air out, they do sink in fresh water and will go straight to the bottom. You can also use them to preserve specimens/insects in... just fill then half way with liquid hand sanitizer, place the dead-dry bug in the center and finish filling with the sanitizer, place the cover on and your specimen is suspended perfectly and clear enough to be photographed or looked at under a microscope. They do scuff or scratch easily, so be very careful if you wish to reuse them. If you want to keep a bug inside without the risk of the top falling off, just add three equal distant short pieces of cellophane tape around the perimeter leaving room for air to pass in and out.If you wish to store food items or something else which requires an airtight seal, these will not work as is.They are exactly as described in the listing and very good quality for the price, I definitely recommend them.
