Q: For planning purposes what is the minimum input voltage for the fixture? My 12v transformer isn't going to deliver 12v at the end of the run.

This is a great question and one I think most people overlook. They all want to run 20-gauge wire like 300' and then wonder why the lights are dim. My run is roughly 35' of 14-gauge wire with three (3) of these fixtures on the leg. If we assume 6 watts each that's 18 watts for the three fixtures at 12 volts for 1.5 amp of current. According to a voltage drop chart I found with a quick search online I should expect a 2% voltage drop in 35' for those parameners. I can live with that. I made my connections using wire nuts for outdoor/undergound use. They've been in for a few years now with no problems. So, to circle back to your question, look at your run and the number of fixtures and calculate your load for the run. Do a search for landscape wiring sizing and you'll see what gauge wire to buy OR, if you're like me and have wire setting around, do the reverse and see what load you can put on your existing wire.
