Black & White Board Book: A High Contrast Book For Newborns

Timeless must-have! I received this book for my oldest when he was born in 2012 and heard raving reviews about how much the gift giver’s own baby had responded to this book.I have now used it for all 5 of my babies and all of them have LOVED it. It’s without a doubt, the only “toy” I have needed for the first couple months. Babies absolutely adore looking at the high contrast images (do a quick Google search on newborn eyesight and development and you will understand why). It is also my go-to shower gift!It’s especially perfect for tummy time, encouraging rolling from back to tummy, and wrapping around their view during diaper changes. It is amazing at calming a baby and keeping their focus and contented interest.The thing that sets this black and white book apart from the others, is the accordion style way it opens, making it perfect for baby to look at, or catch in their line of eyesight, no matter their position (back, tummy, changing time, etc). The other thing that makes it more special is that one side is white with black images and the other is black with white images, so it really keeps baby’s interest and can get changed up.Do not hesitate to buy; It will become a meaningful keepsake and a highly recommended shower gift.

Great format for young babies.

High contrast books are one of those things I vaguely heard about while I was pregnant but didn't really understand, so I didn't put any on my registry. It wasn't until after baby came and I started watching all those YouTube videos about what the heck I'm supposed to do all day long with a newborn that I decided to get this book even though I still didn't see what was so special about it.Well, let me tell you, the first time I opened it for my little one, it was like watching a cat with catnip...especially when I got to the balloon. She lost her ever-loving mind! The next time, it was the buttons that she couldn't get over. Each time we would look at it, she seemed to discover a new one that she loved. I appreciate that it is accordion style so I could set it up around her during tummy time so that she could practice turning her head.I have since bought this book for 2 other friends who just had babies in the past couple of months and will continue adding this to future baby shower gifts!

I have given this book at least a dozen times over the years. There are a lot of "high contrast" books out there for infants. This one is actually high QUALITY, both in the content of the artwork and in the thickness/construction of the board book. Highly recommend.

Original (October 2019): This book is awesome. My little guy (8 weeks old) did 20 minutes of Tummy Time straight while looking at this book. He was so interested & engaged. If your questioning purchasing this get it - it was so worth it. We are just going to use this book at Tummy Time. I love that it folds out and then can be stood upright with multiple pictures showing at the same time. One side had white background with black images & the other side if black background with white images.Updated (July 2020): Our little boy is now 10 months old. He absolutely loves this book, he is able to unfold and fold the book back together. He loves looking at both sides & flipping back and forth between the different sides. Just recently it did rip the front cover (but he is really rough with his toys), so I used packing tape to hold it together. Then when this book went on sale bought a new one cause he loves it so much. It's also easy to take places and put in the diaper bag. I highly recommend buying this book (with a backup), totally worth it!

I got this for my granddaughter and we use it every day! She is a newborn. We lay her down a little fussy and she will stop fussing to look at the images. You can see her tracking them with her eyes. I love that there are two sides. One with black background and one with a white background. She spends quite a bit of time looking at them. We play classical music for maximum brain development time. She was born 6 weeks early so needs some catch up activities.Only thing is I wouldn’t call it a book. It folds out into a long string of images. Perfect for tummy time, as well as all floor time.I highly recommend this!!

My baby loved looking at this book for tummy time. It was perfect accordion style to be able to stand in front of him on its own and the 2 sides were great for variety. The high contrast really kept my baby’s attention. I wish It was thicker “cardboard” though because my 4 year old crumpled it. But we loved it while it lasted

This would entrance our baby for 20-45 minutes at a time. It also folds out long enough so it's easy to place in front of her alongside two elevated surfaces so she can look at it while she's in her baby bjorn. If they made a color version we would definitely buy it.
