Thames & Kosmos Gyroscope

I love giving gyroscopes to kids to play with so they can see and feel how the forces work but have always been frustrated with the cheap metal ones we all had as kids. This is an excellent alternative! It's very well balanced and spins for a very long time. The "hamster ball" as my kids call it is a nice addition as well. You can mount it inside the ball and spin it up and then roll the ball. Of course, due to the gyroscopic effect, the ball will only roll in a perfectly straight line. If you try to roll it 90 degrees off axis, it won't roll at all. I'm very glad to finally have found a good quality gyroscope that is priced at a level you can gift it as a toy.

This is a well made product where the spinning gyro can be filled in the plastic globe and if you are very quick to put it in the box will stand on the box corner.Also does the simpler things of balancing on the string or a biro point. Taught my 6-y-o granddaughter why she can only balance on her bike when it's going along!
