Is it gluten free please?
concerned about sell by date, what is current date from this supplier
I've only heard of malted barley, so sorghum can be malted also? It would be gluten free then unless it was done alongside gluten grains?
It states it is malted, malt is made from barley, so can it be truly gluten free?

Reminds me of my Childhood in Cape Town.
Oh my, for maybe 50 years I’ve been looking for this!! As child who was born from a South African born lady & I lived in Cape Town for a part of my childhood, I remembered a breakfast which I loved but my memory was vauge, I knew it was a porridge, but really couldn’t remember too much about it apart from the fact I loved it! It he name eluded me as I had looked for many years for this mysterious cereal.Recently I was looking for South African goods & stumbled upon Maltbella, I saw the picture on the box and memories came flooding back of this smooth chocolate coloured malty cereal.I bought a pack. When it arrived I tried to make it with water, yuck, this wasn’t right, I remember it as a milky porridge, so I experimented and made it with milk, & there it was, the semolina kinda texture, creamy, malty goodnesss I had known as a child. It bought back memories of my grandparents who we stayed with, it bought back the sunshine, memories of my sisters, my parents. The view of Table Mountain from the front door, all my South African senses were back, the sights the sounds & the tastes and feel of my childhood memories, all in one little bowl of Maltbella.A little goes a long way, it makes a good amount, 40g will make a good size bowl, delicious when made with milk, stir often if your making it in a microwave, you can make it to the consistency you like, I like it semolina consistency: a bit of sugar to sweeten, and yum yum, a malty bowl of goodness, it’s very filling, and it’s meant to be good for you too; great value, all the way from Sunnny South Africa, a tasty malty goodness .Thank you sooo much, I will buy again.I’m going to try it on my grandchildren to see if they like it!I know my grandparents & parents would have been happy I liked this, as I didn’t like milk as a child, so this was a great way of making sure I had milk in my diet.Happy customer.

Same good quality
Just as I have always remembered it. Good quality, great taste. The trick is in making it correctly - but once you have cracked that skill, it's all good

pretty good porridge substitute (non-lectin), bit of a faff cooking it on the hob
First experience with this and happy with the product. No queezy stomach like after eating oats/porridge. Package says the following but I think the amounts could be 2/3 or 3/4 of the those stated on the carton:1 serving:Maltabella 40g / 85ml/1/3 cupCold water: 100ml/2/5 cupBoiling water: 170ml/2/3 cupIf cooking on the hob, the prep and having to stir occasionally for 15m is a bit of a faff (no microwave here, carton gives instructions also for that method) but I can imagine eating it every few days.Packet says: Ingredients Sorghum (99%), salt. Also that it may contain soya and wheat (gluten) - but those not listed as ingredients even for malting, as stated. So presumably just a disclaimer in case the factory also processes them? Anyway, no WGA /wheat germ agglutinin or oats lectins type symptoms after eating (vide S. Gundry: The Plant Paradox etc).

Trip down memory lane.
Was pleased to find this on Amazon. It's a porridge we ate as children in South Africa. Still as good as I remember.
