Can I use this to seal the top of my chimney?

This product is for sealing bricks which is fine for the brick part of the chimney. It says vertical surfaces. I wonder if I can use it on our brick front stoop and steps?

It works on vertical and horizontal surfaces but is designed to shed water from vertical surfaces better and won't protect from standing water on horizontal surfaces.
