Excellent quality but pricey
Papo is one of really only two alternatives to Schleich (the other being Breyer) and that means none of them offers what you might call competitive pricing. My son and daughter are hooked on this sort stuff - it spills out of numerous boxes and the farms they create with it seem to swallow up huge amounts of floor space - so we've bought a lot of it over the years. You can't argue with the quality of Papo (or any of the others) - its durable and robust and certainly up to the challenges of small hands and imaginations - riders and animals in our house are frequently falling over the edge of a cliff (out of an upstairs window) or being carried off to a gruesome fate in the jaws of a giant Hellhound (our pet terrier). The detail is also excellent, Looked at one way, the rigidity of the figures (no moving or jointed parts) could be said to make them less malleable to the imaginary roles they are required to play (a rider walking from stable to steed has more of the John Wayne about it than is perhaps ideal!) but as a near-50 year old I remember playing with little plastic army men as a kid and they were fixed to static bases - but it never stopped them running for cover from enemy machine gun fire, as I recall. The only thing that keeps this from the full five stars is the price - but I guess that in the end you get what you pay for.

I thought I was buying the horse, rider and saddle, etc. So far only the rider has turned up. Very disappointed.

Nice to find a basic male horse rider rather than ...
Nice to find a basic male horse rider rather than a male huntsman or competition rider for my son who rides. He's a bit fiddly to get on the horse but the idea is there and my 4 year old always has him in his bag so can't complain really.
