Delicious but incredibly expensive
This is a review for Danodia pearl millet, currently priced at £18.99 for a 1kg bag.The millet comes in a paper/plastic packet, then in a plastic envelope. The cooking instructions on the packaging are fairly limited, just outlining how to cook it in a traditional pressure cooker or mill it into flour. This presumably reflects the usual South East Asian market of the product. I cooked it with roughly 2.5 times its volume of water and a bit of salt in a multi-cooker with a pressure cooker function for 10 minutes on high. I then let the pressure release naturally. This resulted in nice cooked separate grains with a bit of a bite. However, I will probably add on a couple of extra minutes next time I make this. The grains are delicious (much tastier than I expected) and very versatile. They could be used in place of any other small grain (e.g. rice) or starch (e.g. couscous). They would work well for hot or cold dishes (though couldn't be stored in the fridge for very long due to their large surface area). So, will I buy this product myself once I've used up the bag? Unfortunately, the answer is no. I've compared the price of this millet with other brands I've bought before and this one costs around three times as much per kilo. Even though it is tastier than those other brands, I don't think it is by enough to justify the price difference. We also grow quite a lot of millet in Europe, so it's hard to accept the additional air miles of flying in millet from India.

Easy to cook
This packet of pearl millet comes sealed in a ziplock bag so you can just use what you need and then seal it up again until the next time.I haven't ever cooked whole millet before and I don't have a pressure cooker so the cooking instructions on the packet weren't a great help, however I did a quick online search and decided to soak it overnight and then boil for about 20 mins. This gave a perfect result of the individual grains well cooked but with some "bite". I have used it in cold salads and also made some fritters with the cooked millet.at the time of reviewing this product seems a little more expensive than other brands but it was nice quality and I enjoyed it, so would happily buy it again.

Lovely taste and versatile
This Sorghum Millet comes with good credentials. It's vegan, gluten free and premium quality millet. The seeds are almost uniform. When cooked according to instructions on the packet, they cook well, and are tender when fully cooked. There is also a hint of sweetness in the taste. I used this as a base for grain salad. Adding vegetables, parsley, salt, lemon and pepper. It tasted almost like Taboulleh!! When added to curries it changes texture and curry becomes more crunchy but tastes good. Definitely a good staple for kitchen cupboard. I shall repeat order once I finish this pack.
