Contains ingredients highly toxic to cats, could be safe but needs better directions.
We thought to try The Pet Guru 'Free From Fleas Household Spray' as we are a multi-cat household and fleas are a constant issue; trying to find effective solutions does appear to be a challenge. The product presents very well in a smart and professional looking black bottle of 500ml. The labelling is easy to read with good use of contrasting colours. It states that the use is for fleas, mites, and ticks, that it is powerful and fast acting, and it claims to be a pet-friendly and stain-free formula. It also claims to be a natural remedy using lemongrass, catnip, and quassia. It states it uses high quality essential oils, and plant and herb extracts, with a calming scent of lemongrass and lavender. There are contact details on the bottle for The Pet Guru. The directions for use advise to spray the product on soft furnishings around the house and to allow it to dry. The product should then be reapplied every third day for nine days to break the reproduction cycle. There also is a clear list of warnings. The product is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) and Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) free (these are surfactants / detergents), paraben free (these have similar effects as estrogen and disrupt hormonal balance), cruelty free, and vegan friendly. The manufacturers have also thought about end of product life with regard to making it with plastic that is apparently dyed in a particular way to help it get scanned and identified as recyclable rather than being missed and ending up in landfill. My first issue is that this product is described a pet-friendly and pet-safe, when it, in fact, contains ingredients which are highly toxic and potentially lethal for cats, depending on dosage and exposure—although this is addressed by Pet Guru in the questions section of the Amazon item page, I feel that the product description gives the false impression that nothing in this product could possibly harm pets and that it can be used liberally around them and where they lay, which is, in fact, not the case. The active ingredients are: Catnip and Lemongrass essential oils to repel; Rosemary and Lavender essential oil to deter; Quassia bark, which is anti-inflammatory and anti-parasitic. Essential oils are highly toxic and dangerous for cats, they can build up in their system and adverse effects may be delayed and not noticed until it is too late. Lemongrass essential oil, in particular, is considered fatal to cats. With the above in mind, we feel there is an issue with this product's directions. The warning states to avoid animal consumption (i.e. it should not come in contact with their fur as it will then be ingested), however, the directions do not explicitly state that this product should be left to dry prior to allowing your pet back in the vicinity of the treated area to ensure safety (as similar products do). Furthermore, there is absolutely no dosing guide i.e., how much to spray for a given area. Without this, it is difficult to ensure that the product is used within safe levels for cats (and to assess just how far the one bottle will go). This is especially important as the concentrations used are not specified. Ultimately, I find it hard to trust that any product with essential oils can be used fresh around cats and feel that there simply isn't sufficient specific information to give confidence of usage. At the time of writing this product retails at £19.99, which is a high price-point for 500 ml of product. This could be a safe and effective product for the elimination and prevention of fleas around the household, but is let down by the specifics in the directions to ensure the safety of pets.

After my dog become very poorly from using nexguard to treat her was looking for a more natural deterrent. Used this on carpet and soft furnishings. Can't say how well it works at the moment so have only given 4 stars
