Liked:- Very good sound esp for a small dongle DAC- Supports Samsung 'super fast charging' w S24 Ultra - many smaller charging dongles don't- Works well w the IEMs I have tried so far- Reasonably light & compact for the features & specsCould be better? - not a lot so far- not quite as light & compact as the very smallest dongles. I have tried several of the smaller dongles, none have worked as well as this for the combination of sound & chargingI haven't yet tried these with super critical ultra high end audiophile IEMs or headphones, but that's not really my use case for this small ultra portable DAC (I have other equipment for that type of listening). I've been very satisfied with the sound so far with mid-range hybrid IEMs that I use while mobile or in bed, etc.

I had a lightning version from Belkin for my old iPhone. One of the things that I noticed is that when I would plug in my phone to charge while I was listening to music, there was a slight humming/buzzing.This was unacceptable, especially since I take samples from Garage Band & import them to my DAW. I used to have to run filters to remove that humming or not keep the phone charging while working, which drains the battery when working with Garage Band.This JSAUX eliminates that humming/buzzing nicely when working/listing while charging.Compared to the Belkin, this has a bit more heft, comes with braided cables & feels like it has a better build quality.Just be aware if you are using phone case, the USB-C may be too big. I use a case on my phone & it's a snug fit. So thankful it fits!

Mostly transparent. Seems a little warm but good dynamic range, sound stage, and imaging. Of course, this can be affected by what cans you pair with it. Won't be able to drive hungry cans but did a decent job with my AKG K553 Pros with about 50-70% vol depending on song. Well-constructed with durable materials. Tested with and without amp with music from the following, Skee Mask/SCNTST, DnB, Jungle, G Jones, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Tycho, Aphex Twin, Em:t compilations, Com Truise, DJ Rum, Ceephax Acid Crew, Legowelt, Secede, Ed Banger label, A-Trak, Fools Gold label, etc... it all sounded great. How long will the electronics last? Who knows. I try not to expose it to heat (my pocket).

After a month of light useage, the adapter failed. I am completely unsatisfied with this purchase.

The device is functional. However, the volume and clarity of the audio are markedly lower than that of another adapter that I have; so much lower as to make the product nearly unusable. Maybe my phone doesn't offer enough juice to both power the adapter and pump out audio?

UPDATE: It occurs to me, there's one thing that could be added to this that would make it different than the competition, and also much more useful: a microSD card slot. With the ability to use external storage while the device is plugged in, I'd be able to use it even on phones that don't have the ability to use an external SD card built in. With that ability, suddenly I'd be able to use it on my phones where the audio and charging work, but they don't have SD card support (all of the phones I have that don't support microSD card WILL see one with an external card reader).*****TL;DR:ProsIt's a really great product, that sips power (0.3w), produces excellent sound (from high quality sound files), and has virtually no noise floor.Cons:There *is* some noise when charging (but it stops when playing audio), compatibility with devices is... diverse (details below). 5 stars for sound quality, 1 star lost because the compatibility is a bit hit and miss.*****Hardware Used for Testing:Pixel 3 XLAmazon Fire HD Tablet (2019)Moto G Power (2022)Windows PC (Win10)First, let me tell you a bit about my background, and specific use case.One of the degrees I graduated with from college was in music, after college I attended (and graduated from) a conservatory in NYC, then I taught music at a university for several years. I currently have a YouTube channel where I teach music theory, composition, and music production.I spend so much of my time listening to music that my ears are super important to me, so I always listen at the lowest possible volumes (I have to use apps to allow me to make the volume lower than is possible directly on a device). Since I'm so aware of the volumes I listen at, my hearing is excellent (at hearing tests I'm routinely told that I can hear frequencies that most 16 year olds can't, I'm in my mid 40s).I wanted to use my Moto G Power for playing FLAC files converted from my CD library. As it has external SD card support, a large battery, and a physical headphone port, this seemed like a great way to use it. For the most part, most people would probably be perfectly fine just plugging their headphones in, and listening at ear-destroying volumes. Since I use very sensitive headphones, and extremely low volumes, it became clear, very quickly, that this wasn't going to work for me. The noise floor was nearly as high as the signal, and at quiet sections, the noise floor was louder than the source. A terrible experience, and a consequence of the inexpensive DAC in the cell phone.So I took one of my cheap usb-c to headphone adapters, and the noise floor, while still audible, was much more smooth, and tolerable. But still very much there. Annoyingly. I then tried another of my cheap adapters that also, supposedly, allowed usb-c charging while using the headphone adapter, as well. This has never worked on any of my hardware. It will either charge, OR work as a headphone adapter, but not both.I plugged my audio interface (3rd gen Focusrite Scarlett 2i2) into my phone, and the noise floor was slightly lower, but at the cost of bulk, and much higher power usage. I went looking for a more powerful DAC made for cell phones. Lots of choices, but I really wanted one that would allow charging WHILE listening. The high end offerings ($80+) didn't offer this feature.After much debate, I bought the JSAUX product for about $20. Not the cheapest, nor most expensive, offering, and quite a bit larger than most headphone adapters, but on paper the specs looked excellent (especially, for my uses, the SNR and ability to charge and use wired headphones).It came today, and here are the results.*Moto G Power (2022):As this is my target, this is what I tried first. It works with all my other cheap adapters, and my audio interface (3rd gen Focusrite Scarlett 2i2). Unfortunately when I plug the JSAUX adapter in, there's a brief burst of noise, then silence. It doesn't detect this as a valid sound device, and audio is still routed through the internal phone speaker. Also? It won't charge. Odd. Time for more experiments.When I plug power into the JSAUX product, there's buzzing in the connected headphones, which, at first, was irritating (more on that later), but the phone would not charge. I tried several different chargers and cables. No effect.Here's where it starts to become more interesting. If I plug the external power into the device while it's NOT attached to the phone, THEN attach the power device, it WILL charge, even at fast charging rates. Still there's buzzing in the headphones, and the phone won't play audio through it. If I remove the power from the device, the noise in the headphones stop... if I then plug the power back in, it, again, won't charge, unless I remove the device from the phone, and plug in the power to the device FIRST, then plug the powered device into the phone.Next, I tried restarting the phone. No change. Finally, I restarted the phone WITH the adapter already plugged in to the phone. Guess what? Doing this makes it work! The audio is now routed though the JSAUX product, and you know what? It. Sounds. GREAT. NO noise even at the lowest volumes. However, if I then remove the adapter from the phone, and plug it back in, it won't see it, again. The only solution is to restart the phone while it's attached, and leave it attached. If you remove it, you have to restart the phone. Also, of note, if power is attached with the headphones, and it's attached to the phone, once restarted, charging will be working, but the audio won't work. Removing and resupplying power also doesn't work (unless the power is attached when plugging the DAC in to the phone).*Amazon Fire HD Tablet (2019):This is an odd one. None of my other hardware will work correctly with this tablet. Either it won't see the connected hardware, won't power it, or the audio will be distorted and broken. Not the case with the JSAUX DAC. The audio works, and sounds just as luxurious as on the Moto G Power, but, unfortunately, you can EITHER have sound, OR charge. If you have both headphones and power connected when you plug this into the tablet, it will charge, but sound will come out of the tablet, not headphones. If you have only headphones connected, you'll get sound, but if you then attach power, nothing happens.This tablet is a bit too large to throw into my pocket, though, and not being able to charge and listen makes it not really useful for my needs.*Pixel 3 XL:This was the star. Not only will it play audio, in excellent quality (as is consistent across devices), it will charge at the same time!Once I got over the shock and joy, I noticed that the buzzing from charging was still present, however, as soon as audio starts playing, the buzzing stops (I even turned the audio down so low that it couldn't be heard, just to see if there was ANY charging noise, there isn't). Interesting.Unfortunately, since it doesn't have the ability to use an external SD card for music storage, it's all but useless for my purpose.*PC (Win10):The audio quality is far better than the internal sound card. While not quite as good as my audio interface, it also lacks all the features of that device, they're made for different tasks. The latency when using the JSAUX product was much higher than using my audio interface, though, also, much lower than the internal sound card. I was able to achieve latency of between 13 and 20ms, depending on buffer size and quality. I can get under 5ms with my audio interface. Is this a deal breaker? Absolutely not. While 20ms of latency is noticeable (minimally), this device is way smaller, lighter, and portable than my audio interface. If I want to make some music at, say, the library, it's much less disruptive to use this DAC, and it's definitely usable.*Final notes:One last metric I wanted to note, power draw. My audio interface can vary between around 1.5w, up to closer to 5w. The JSAUX DAC (and ALL of my cheaper adapters) uses around 0.3w. If efficient power usage was my goal, this DAC is just as efficient as the other contenders, but with much higher quality sound, and a nearly non-existent noise floor.I'm not sure why there was such a disparity between the way this hardware works on different devices, but I think it's clear that this is more the hardware I'm using it on, than the JSAUX product itself. That being said, I removed one star because it may, or may not, work as you'd expect, and I'm not really sure there's a decent way to predict how it will behave on your specific phone/tablet without trying it out.Will I be keeping it? Ab. So. Lutely. It sounds phenomenal. The extra headache of having to restart my phone to use it isn't the end of the world for me, and while I'm disappointed that my target phone won't allow charging and listening at the same time, the benefits outweigh the frustration, by a lot, especially for the price. If you're looking to play high quality music, at extremely low volume to save your hearing, this has you covered.

I was skeptical buying this, but have been solidly pleased with it.The ports are tight and soldered well. Everything stays plugged in.It doesnt overheat while charging at high wattage.The sound output is crisp and the level is good. I have used other brands where the sound is really low and crackles a bit. This one has been perfect.Price was fair.Overall I am happy with this and it has proven to be better than a couple of others that I have. I wish I had bought this one first.
