Canon MP499 very difficult to use
I was so fed up with my HP printer using ink so fast and rejecting any remanufactured cartridges that I researched and decided on this Canon MP499. The printer looks great and compact. However the directions are so convoluted that you feel you need a Chinese translator. Even with expert help it was difficult getting my laptop to connect to the printer. The desktop is fine but the laptop only prints when it wants to and sometimes it prints the document 3 hours later. It will not scan. I have to get more help. I have always been able to do it myself. I have to say the print is good and the ink cartridges last long. That is if you don't purchase the remanufactured ones. They only want you to use their own. This is something new that has recently happened. Right now I am disgusted with printers and don't know where to get one that is simple to use, directions in simple English, and allows you to use remanufactured or refilled cartridges.

Most desirable feature doesn't work
I picked this printer over others because the details claimed that I would be able to print wirelessly from my phone. It was super easy to set up, until it came to getting it on our wireless network. My husband works with computers so I eventually called him in for help, and it STILL won't connect. Not sure if it's because of crazy security, but I'm very disappointed that I have to plug my laptop into print. If I had known, I could've gotten a much cheaper printer.

Canon PIXMA MP499
I needed a printer for less-than-daily printing. I thought I would have to spend much more than I did for this one to get a printer/scanner/copier.Set-up was very straightforward. I am not a tech person by any means. Instructions were clear and easy to follow. Making the wireless connection was far easier than I had imagined.Best of all, when everything was set up, the test print which was color was excellent. I am very happy with the quality of the printing which will be the function I use most.I think this multi-function printer is a super value for the money.

Great printer and great price....
Printer quality is very good. Image printing is excellent but you must use the correct paper.Wireless setup and function is excellent. I print from 5 computers in my house, all wirelessly. Easy setup in about 15 minutes and the printer is easily discovered by computers by simply running the install CD.Recommend this printer for regular household printing on regular paper and image/presentation printing using heavy weight or glossy paper. Trying to print images on regular paper resuls in low quality which is to be expected and is clearly documented in the instructions. As with all Canon printers, the cartridges need to change often but then are reasonably priced and very easy to install and automatically align.

compact printer
Manual instructions make it easy to set up. It's slow and noisy, but the print quality is good. And paper and ink are easy to load.

Good printer....bad, no horrible, wireless setup method and instructions...
Printer prints...but only when hard connected to a computer...the wireless function is next to impossible and the documentation even worse. Looks like they didn't bother to check the translation from Chinese to English prior to making this unit available to the public. Very unhappy as the wireless function was one of the reasons I bought this unit...

Canon Made It Stop Printing
I have had this printer for 9 years, so you would think I should be satisfied. But I object to the way Canon terminated its life. The printer first gave an error message that the pads that soak up the spilled ink around the ink cartridges need to be replaced. But it was still printing fine, so I didn't replace them. So yesterday the printer came up with a more serious error message - P07. Writers on the internet said that this was one to panic about, and even if the soak-up pads were replaced, this error message might continue. So, time to junk the machine. But I object to the fact that Canon decided what I had to do or they wouldn't let me print, even though it was printing fine right up until that moment. This is Canon playing Big Brother, and I don't like it.

what a great deal
I believe amazon was selling this model for little over $60 at the time. I ended up purchasing one for about $40 after redeeming points. I was MORE than pleased with CANON PIXMA MP499 because it setup easily and performs all its functions very well.I set it up as network printer without even being the administrator of home network. All I needed was network name and wifi password. Then I added some other people's computers. So there are laptops and desktops with different operating systems in 4 different rooms around the house, all printing WIRELESSLY to this printer. I was concerned that wireless connectivity would be lost to the printer eventually but this hasnt happened yet, and this is after we lost service to ISP twice and router shutdown or reset numerous times. Problems may occur in "ad-hoc" networks I believe.Additionally, I tested print quality. It prints beautiful photos on photo paper. Scanner is good, so good copies.I didn't try to print from my phone yet. One more thing, it is a little loud during printing, but there is an option uder printing preferences to print more silently that will cut the noise down to about half.
