Will this work to secure a small ceramic lamp to a wooden riser box?

It would work to hold it in place if its just sitting on top. I would use something else if you need to lift it.

Want to use to secure blotter to drsk. Will this hurt wood or leave residual marks?

I believe it might leave residue. The sticky stuff is clear. I used them on glass jars to adhere ribbon. It took some scrubbing to remove residue from glass

Will these support string lights?

Probably. They hold very tight.
