Great sounding steel lap at an amazing price
This is a great guitar for a very reasonable price. This is my second lap steel guitar (my first one I built from scratch). I always wanted to put on a Certano string bender and roller bridge. Sadly, I didn't leave enough room by the bridge on the lap steel I built so I decided to buy a Recording King, P-90 version to put the string bender/bridge on and it sounds amazing! I’ve always been a fan of P-90 pickups. They have a bright, but not too harsh sound and are great for that steel lap sound (especially after some pickup height adjustments). It's a well-built guitar. The cheapest parts seemed to be the original bridge (which I replaced with a Certano roller bridge) and the tuners. With that said, the guitar stays in tune; even on the strings where I'm mechanically bending a full and half step with the two string benders. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase and would buy another one. I was a bit nervous when I read some of the other reviews... now I'm just skeptical of those reviews. If you want the guitar to sound and play amazing I would upgrade the bridge and put on some better, heavier gauge strings, especially if you want to play in open D or E.

prefect for beginners, and for advanced players
I play several string instruments from bass guitar to 12 string this is my first lapsteel i have a hawiian guitar and decided to ad this to my collection I own close to 20 guitars and all get played the tone quality is great. watch it in shipping as amazon tends not to pad well I seen a couple complaints about having to solder parts or repair it. I would have sent it back if damaged do not go by that review. The sound quality is excellent it works great with my amps and all of them. it also came with it's own cable which I don't think was mentioned in the description. I would buy another for sure and recommend this to all and also recommend if you are a new player to get the beginners music book. the strings sit high enough on the nut and off the fret board for great playing I do recommend a heavier string then the stock strings on it. but that's a matter of taste and what you are playing. all in all a great instrument. for a beginner and advanced player. well worth the price.

Solid instrument, nice sound, good sustain.
I’m giving this 5 stars for the quality to price ratio. I wanted a 6 string for open E blues. I’m playing it pretty clean through a little Roland Cube amp and the sound is very satisfying. It looks nice and feels solid. It has good sustain that one looks for in a lap steel. I play OK, but I’m no professional, so I don’t need the best - whatever that would sound like. No faults on this one, I’m glad I chose it. Good for beginner and for competent amateur at the very least.

Great Value!
For the money, I just don't know what else you could hope for. Good sounding, in-tune ( I may replace the gears later, but I'll just have to see. String spacing is a little tight for my taste, but I can live with it.

Fix it first
The instrument is fine after twice getting different things repaired that should have been done before it left the factory. One piece of the sound pickup had to be replaced, and another had to be re soldered.

Get what you pay for
2 issues; The guitar arrived in a box big enough to hold 10-15 lap steels! Secondly, the guitar didn't work when I plugged into an amp. I had to re-solder the pickup, volume, and tone wires as well as the amp cord plug. This was a simple enough fix that I have done many times before on other guitars, but not a reasonable expectation for something new out of the box. Fail!

Great for the money.
I purchased this model just the other month as I now have a student and was tired of having to borrow my friend's old Magnatone around (I'm sure he too, was tired of me borrowing his old lap steel). For the price I paid, I have no complains. I've seen a few people who have said that there lap steels did not work upon arrival, and that they had to re-solder the pickup. This is a minor annoyance, and should never happen with a new instrument. I am glad to report that it was not the case with mine and that my lap steel arrived in good working order. The tuners are alright. They look like older style Klusons and they hold pretty well in most open tunings, such as A and G. I put it to a C6 (with a C natural) and it was pretty tight, but it holds tune still. Maybe I will change the tuners out in the future, but they're serving me well right now.In the past, a friend of mine had lent me his Rogue lap steel. Comparably priced to this Recording King... I'd rather put my money down on the Recording King. Its got a more dynamic pickup than the Rogue, better tuners, and a real solid bridge. After a couple months of regular playing, I only have two complaints, but both are easily remedied.1. I wish there was a cover over the pickup (but I can install one, at a cost of... $12ish.)2. My friend's Magnatone, as well as some other laps I've played in the past; has an abrasive tape that covers the bottom of the guitar, which provides friction so that the instrument is not prone to sliding around. I could install this, and probably will, but it just seems like such a cheap and simple thing that I wish it had come with the instrument. If you're getting into lap steel, or just need a cheap backup, then I can't recommend this steel highly enough. In my experience, its a fully playable traditional style lap steel that will not break the bank. Mine even came with a free chord.

Super fun
Just starting to play this instrument after playing the cello for 50 years. I find it a great starting slide guitar to start out with especially at the price.Sounds pretty good and is super fun!
