I had to purchase one of these locally last year and it cost a fortune and lasted only one year! This one is affordable and seems to work fine. They are getting rare as most furnaces use controller boards anymore. This is a thermo-electric generator that creates enough power from the heat of the pilot flame to hold the gas valve open. If it gets cold, the valve closes and the gas shuts off. Its simple and effective--not some complicated thing that will fail when you need it most.

Pilot light on my 40 gallon GE hot water heater wouldn’t stay light. Some research showed that the thermocouple could cause this issue. I decided to try a $10 part before having to buy a whole new water heater and it works perfectly.

Easy to install on my water heater, coming from someone who had no idea what a thermocouple was until I suddenly had no hot water. It's been about a month and I still have hot water so it's still working great!

Works as stated

once installed it does it's job perfectly well. installing was more difficult than it needed to be, the threads on the nut are not all that cleanly made and were a struggle to get started. would have preferred they use a brass nut like most thermocouples, the threads on those have cleaner threads in my experience.
