Fascinating bit of economic, political and culinary (aenological?) history in addition to being a story about an incredible woman in business - informative, inspiring, beautifully researched and written. I have bought copies of this book in many countries and given with Veuve Cliquot champagne. Makes a great gift! (tIt is a big mistake to put this book in the cooking sections of book stores! it belongs with the biographies or history section)

Author very thorough with history and dates, tends to repeat her conclusions and assumptions about the main character many times in the same way, without new phrasing. Author had little primary material to quote from, as the Widow left very little written material. A fascinating analysis of the development of the champagne industry.

We purchased this as a gift because it was listed as a Hardback. We also paid a higher price because it was listed as a hardback. This was intended as a gift and what we received was a soft paper cover that appeared to be used and stained. False advertising and poor quality.
