If you have nighttime dry mouth due to Sjogrins/Chemo etc.. get the Platypus!
I use the Platypus differently than most people probably. I have Sjogrins syndrome and do not produce saliva ( some people who have had chemo also have this problem ). For years I have had a glass of water at my bedside for frequent sips throughout the night. Waking up every 30 minutes or so to take a sip from a cup of water is difficult. When I came across the hands free Platypus hoser I decided to give it a try. I hung the bag from my bed post leaving the tube within reach during the night. HUGE difference! Not having to sit up to use a glass (so not to spill on yourself) was such a blessing. Every 2-3 days I clean out the pack with warm soapy water and then rise the pack and tube very well. I then fill the reservoir with spring water. This has made a huge difference in my quality of sleep. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because after 4 months of nightly use the mouth grip separated from the tubing during the night and all the water in the bag drained onto my floor. I purchased a new platypus and putting a large towel on the floor under it so if this happens again at least the water will do minimal damage. Getting more rest make the hands free platypus is worth it though! I highly recommend.

Bite valve failed - took a lot of effort to get Playpus to replace!!
EDITED TO ADD: Adding two stars, because after some back and forth with Platypus they are replacing the bite valve. Still only 3 stars overall because I don't think it should have failed so quickly, and it took several weeks for Platypus to get back to me and fix the issue. The bite valve on this hydration system failed within a few months. The opening split at the ends and began to leak.I contacted the seller and they referred me to the manufacturer for warranty. The manufacturer sent me a link to purchase a new bite valve on their website. So - I'm expected to spend $10 ($5 for the part and $5 for shipping) to repair this product after just a few months.Nope. Terrible durability and terrible customer service (by Platypus, who should stand behind their products).I do not recommend!

Light and Battle Worthy
I like these "minimalist" bladders the best... very light, pretty much indestructible. The clip is junk and I just throw them away...all the bags have loops anyway. Some people complain about the "low" water flow on these but I disagree. I don't need to feel like I am sipping from a straw, I get plenty of water per draw and I think too much flow allows me to waste water by drinking too much. Some people complain about the ease of cleaning these bags... but I say huh? Its easy... I don't even use soap! I just mix a bit of baking soda and a few drops of bleach with warm water, pour it into the bladder, attach the hose and shake vigorously for about 3 minutes and drain it through the hose by pinching the mouthpiece.. Then I rinse it with tap water (for the light chlorination) 5 or so times, then hang it in a dry place not in direct sunlight for sometimes a week...easy but it does take time to dry. There are more labor intensive methods, but if you have the time why other? All in all I like these better than the wide mouth bladders... I never use ice and I only use water and the fill is not too much of a bother for me. It is much harder to fill in a hiking situation if you don't have a filter system...but not from a faucet and for wild water I use a filter system that goes straight into the bag.

USE IT UNDERWATER!
We are scuba divers. "Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink!" When scuba diving, breathing that dry air makes my mouth SO SUPER PARCHED. Normally, I just "bucked up" and tried not to think about how thirsty I was. Now, I can have that sip! My husband figured out we can fill a 1L Platypus with water, SQUEEZE OUT ALL THE EXTRA AIR in the bladder (do this before screwing on the cap), then put the cap on, put it in a BC pockets and use it UNDERWATER to get a drink! It takes a little practice, but once you get it down, what a giant relief to be able to have a sip or two of water while scuba diving! AMAZINGLY REFRESHING!

Great for a recovering patient
We used this for my husband when he was moved from ICU and too weak to lift a cup. We simply hung it from his IV pole and laid the mouthpiece by his head. He was able to take a sip in the middle of the night without having to call for help. It was a huge relief to him.

Great overall luxery item for minimalistic backpackers.
I've been a minimalistic backpacker for about 28 years and when camel bags came out was hesitant to use them. My experience with them have been overall pretty negative on short treks to the point I never felt comfortable using them on my longer trips, plus being the type of hiker that measures his gear in ounces I could never justify the added weight. I've used platypus bags in conjunction with my sawyer filters for about 6 years and have had no complaints. I decided on my most recent 5 day trip to purchase and use this platypus camel bag in an attempt to be able to easily drink more water without having to stop and grab my wate bottle. Overall my experience has been positive. It takes a little while to get used to and I wish the bite valve had a cover. I really wanted to use my sawyer filter inline with this setup, but that would have required me making some modifications I wasn't comfortable with. I wish I would have purchased the 1 Liter bag instead of the 2 liter bag, but that was my own fault. I did have an instance where I didn't screw the valve on correctly and water leaked in to my pack. It wasn't a problem because I use a cubein fiber pack liner. Fits great in my Osprey Exos 48 L pack. I would recommend and buy again.

How did I go so long without this?
I really love hiking, but my husband doesn’t. So this means that I’m usually solo with a toddler in the hiking backpack and my 6 year old at my side. We’ve been trying to get out for a few hikes a week and packing a water bottle for everyone has been annoying to say the least.I’ve never used one of these water bladders before but I noticed that my expensive toddler backpack had a place for one. This was super easy to figure out and setup and I honestly couldn’t even feel it on my back as we hiked for a solid 2 hours. This helped us last longer and kept us moving with a lot less water breaks. And as a bonus this kept my 18 month old entertained as he kept shoving it into my mouth the duration of our hike.

Wanted to like my second one
I had a platypus for YEARS and loved it. It gave up the ghost and i replaced with the updated one. Well, it's never stopped leaking on hikes. I kept trying it again and again hoping it was just me not tightening it up enough/ properly. It's not. I can't tighten it any harder and I go to the gym. And I have definitely not threaded it or anything like that. It's just a badly designed connection. I recommended my mate get one a few months later (despite my doubts on this one) - he did and it has a different connection head. Clearly been redesigned... new material, slightly different size etc. Obviously am too late to go back to the retailer so will contact platypus direct. Pity. For 15 years it was awesome. Hope they send me a new one i can keep using.

Failed after 15 day's use over 10 months
This is my second Platypus. The bag appears to have an inherent design flaw in the bonding between the bag and the hose attachment in the bag. My first one, a 2l bag, failed though I was able to repair it using a hot needle to melt the plastic and seal the leak. (Not recommended as a normal repair, worked in my specific issue.) This repaired bag then gave good service. Unfortunately the 3l bag, perhaps with its larger volume exerting greater pressure on the bonded surface (?), has failed along most of one side between bag and hose attachment. The wet rucksack and trousers inconvenient, the loss of water to drink when in snowy mountains concerning.Product likely fine for gentle use in a light summer walk.Do not recommend it for mountaineering, hence the one star.

Third time lucky
This is my third water hoser...bought two cheaper earlier. They worked...but this one works so much better! I hike nearly every week and have used this water-bag now on several dozen hikes. Among the advantages, compared to other models i have, is how quick and easy it is to fill the bag with water and close it; a big advantage for me on those Saturday mornings when i rush to get ready to get to the hike on time.Few issues, relatively minor, but still issues (would give it 4.5 starts but gave it 5 as i got it for a great price):- It takes some time to get used to mastering the art of pressing the mouth-piece to drink from; it gets easier after few uses, maybe because the rubber flexes as well.- There is no way to close the mouth-piece from releasing water. It;s not a problem during a hike, as the tube ends up in front of you, but in transport, it happened several times that my bag got wet because something ended up pressing on the mouth-piece, which released water.- Lastly, and this happened only twice, the screw-on cap (which ends up at the bottom of your backpack) got loose enough that water came out. I make sure to give it one last twist before putting the backpack on.

do not buy
I bought this to replace an old one that was wearing out and bought in August 2021 so did not use till February 2022. I thought platyous would be a good name and paying more would give me a good product. not so. It leaks in two places and I haven't had it out of the house. Very annoying that they only allow a short window to send things back, so I paid top dollar for something to put in the recycle bin

Perfect
Easy to use. Rinsed under the tap when bought new. No strange taste. Cleans easily after use. Stew fitting lid can be a little fiddly and if not seated correctly will leak as you would expect. With a little care this issue is easily over come. Great price too. I rate highly than my Osprey
