Can you sleep in these? If you're a side-sleeper, with an ear pressed into your pillow, how comfortable would they be?

Not very comfortable. The way the drums (not the rubber tip but the plastic speaker housing) rest in my ear cavity can become uncomfortable after a while even without putting pressure on them, and I have larger ears.

How durable are these?

Every pair I’ve owned fell apart in less than a year. They are not durable at all.

Nope, no volume control. One button. One push to answer/hang up a call, use Google Assistant or Siri, and play/pause. Double tap to skip ahead, triple tap to skip back.

How do they work for phone calls-- is the ambient sound pretty bad?

I had no trouble at all when I used them for phone calls, audio was loud and clear, and didn't hear any complains from the other side.
