Yes the magic mary is generally considered a downhill front tire, but some people run two. Big betty is an excellent choice for rear on loose, rocky and downhill conditions. If you want something a little less extreme for the rear, consider a Hanz Damf. Personally I run Magic Mary/ Big Betty on my full suspension and Magic Mary/Hanz Damf on my hardtail for easier single track.
