Worth Every Penny

After using this brand's under-desk cycle for 5 years, it was time to upgrade to something that would support my feet fully. I also wanted a shorter/smaller unit. This one does not disappoint. Before getting this item, I tried a couple of other brands - electrical ones did not offer resistance adjustment and were loud even on the quiet setting. Other manual machines did not deliver. This one...Easy to set up. Quiet. Does not require electricity. The resistance knob delivers (like it did on the cycle). The bonus is that the display unit can now be placed on the desk, so it is easy to see metrics.WISHFUL THINKING- I wish they would make the LCD screen bigger and higher contrast, so it is easier to see. And I wish they would have a backlight option, because I often work evenings. And I wish they offered more fun colors for the unit. This is my new favorite work "toy". I hope it lasts as long and longer than the cycle machine I got from them 5 years ago (that one is still working as good as new).

Excellent Product. Great Customer Service

The DeskCycle is very well built, though heavy. Its action is smooth and silent. Its one weakness is that its easy to sever the bungee cord that keeps the foot pedals in place when moving the unit. The good news is that Vivo actually has customer service: a number you can call and a real human being you can talk to (thanks, Sydney!). A replacement was promptly sent out at no cost. This kind of customer service has almost vanished. Bravo, Vivo!

Excellent for Physical Therapy at home!!!

I have had chronic pain in my SI joint, right hip, and right leg for nearly three years due to a work injury. After going to the chiropractor for months and months to very little avail, I was losing hope in how to address the injury and fix my atrophy and strengthen my core while being unable to work due to the pain and discomfort. I am only 31 years old... After starting Physical Therapy and realizing that low-impact exercise is the key to recovery (in my situation, and many others), I decided to do research on at-home under desk cycles and ellipticals. It was a close call between this, the Desk Cycle 2, and the multiple versions of the Cubii. The Cubii seemed to have too much fitness tracking and tech addons that made the price unjustifiable/unnecessary to me. I also noticed through days and days of comparisons and reviews that Desk Cycle Ellipse was coming out above the competitors on range of motion, resistance settings, noise, and foot placement (different foot placement works different muscles vs the Cubii working only one set). So far, the Ellipse has made a HUGE difference in my physical recovery. When I am not at PT or doing my exercises at home, I am using the Ellipse any chance I can get. It really helps my morning aches and stiffness when using it first thing in the morning while checking email/drinking coffee. It really is about as silent as it gets without being invisible and/or defying physics. the rotation is very smooth, the 'clicking' people mention is attributed to a lack of lubricant on the wheels/base, not the bearings or flywheel. I was concerned when I got the clicking noise, but after trial and error, realized that a little lubricant of any kind and making sure no cat hairs were on the wheel 'track' was the fix for me. I would like the option to strap my feet on like the Cubii, as I notice my feet sliding around on higher resistances without running shoes on, but this is an easy and cheap velcro fix vs paying more for the Cubii. Super easy to move and store, and the display screen it comes with is an awesome addition and works well with the Desk Cycle fitness tracker. Zero sliding on carpet, I'd assume wood or tile is even more sturdy but I have zero complaints there too. Highly recommended - zero regrets, and the best investment hands down for my physical recovery I've taken in 3 years of exhausting other avenues!

The Ellipse works great! Read on for some tips :-)

I bought this on 6/30/23, and here I am, almost 2 years later, writing a review. I bought it to use under my desk at work, because I found myself with too much time on my arse and not enough on my feet. I worked in a high school (I just retired) and was fortunate to share a building with the small practice gym, so if it wasn’t being used for morning practice, I would go in and walk about a 1/2 mile in gym laps before school started. I wanted something I could use when the gym wasn’t accessible, so I got this, but sadly, it was too tall for my desk. I tried to use it sitting sideways, which was great as long as I didn’t want to get any work done (sarcasm). I ended up bringing it home and putting it in my garage, where it sat, unused, until today. Why today? I’m glad you asked! See, I have two elderly dogs, and my older one (age 13) has been suffering from major diarrhea for the past couple of days. I’m talking, explosive, smelly, liquid stuff. So, in order to keep at least part of the downstairs area clean, I’ve had to confine her to the kitchen/dining room, which has tile floors. Now, this is a social pup here, so she was pretty miserable being separated from me and her sister, and I felt bad, too. I also haven’t been able to work out due to needing to keep an eye on her, because as soon as her tail lifts, we have to jet outside to avoid her jetting interesting, Pollock-like poo designs on the floor inside. Because I’m a dumb human, it took me to TODAY to remember I even had this thing, and I face-palmed *hard* when I realized I could have been working out and keeping her company ALL. THIS. TIME. I brought it inside, cleaned it up, and promptly forgot how I’d had it set up back when I first got it.It comes with a detachable monitor with a cord long enough you can set it on your desk or table or wherever, and keep track of basic stats (revolutions, time, calories, and rpm). I also remembered (barely) I had bought and attached the recommended Gpulse dual Bluetooth cadence/speed sensor, but I couldn’t remember the name of the app I had that worked with it. Turns out, that’s okay, because the app has apparently been discontinued. Bummer! I can certainly understand the frustration of some other reviewers who said the Ellipse is worthless without a usable app. I mean, it still gives a great workout, but if you don’t want to bother to enter things manually, I get it. I kept reading, though, and found a reviewer who had figured out a workaround! The sensor is just a regular bike speed/cadence sensor, so I did what he suggested and connected the sensor (after replacing the dead battery) to Samsung Health on my phone, and bingo! It works great! I went to the bike settings and set it as an “other” bike, changed the wheel size to 700mm (per his rec), and sho ‘nuff, it started recording speed, distance, time, and calories on the Samsung Health app. Because I’m a gadget junkie and can’t leave things well enough alone, I had to try and connect it to my Garmin watch…and it worked! It connected as a new sensor just fine, but it recorded my speed as 36mph lol - as compared to the Samsung app which said roughly 10mph. That’s probably my fault, but I didn’t take the time to figure it out yet. I’ll probably update this review if I decide to get that deeply into this. It’s supposed to work with Apple Health as well, but I haven’t tried connecting it to my iPad yet so I don’t know about that. I have an Android phone, for reference. Remember, you’re connecting the machine to the app by using the sensor, not the monitor. Without the sensor, it can’t connect to anything because the monitor isn’t Bluetooth. Also, I saw some negative reviews claiming the Ellipse is dangerous because the pedals flop when you pick it up to move it. YES, they do - UNLESS you use the little bungee cords that are on either side of the resistance wheel to lock them in place! Some people have complained about snapped cords; I haven’t experience that, but I haven’t really used it enough yet so that remains to be seen.I did a .5 mile workout once I got everything connected, and BOY, do my legs feel it! And it’s only on resistance level 2! I’m in pretty decent shape, too - I walk 2 or 3 miles every day, do indoor rowing, cycling, and skiing, and lift weights. I’m a 57 y/o female, if that helps. (I’ve attached a photo with my workout results screen from the Samsung Health app)This machine IS heavy, but I like that because it stays in place no matter how vigorously I pedal, even on a tile floor. My biggest challenge is finding a chair that is the right height. I don’t have an adjustable office chair downstairs, so finding a balance between my couch (too low) and a kitchen chair (too high and squeaky) is hard, but the least of my worries. This little Ellipse is very solid, and it can provide excellent workouts if you give it a chance.TL;DR - great machine, WILL work with Bluetooth because can be connected to a bike sensor (but can also give you a great workout without using a sensor), use the bungees for pedal safety when moving it, and have a great workout!
