Very helpful for gastrocnemius equinus (tight calf)
I've been using this for a couple of weeks to massage my left calf when I get a few spare minutes at work. During my half marathon training I developed equinus which basically means my calf muscle is too tight causing constant discomfort. This Little Stick helps loosen the muscle and work out the adhesions a bit to give me some relief. I like the feel of the grips and it seems like a sturdy product that will last a long time. It's just the right size for a calf massage and it's small enough to fit inside one of my desk drawers so it's very convenient.I strongly recommend this tool, or another stick, for any long distance runners. If your calf muscles are tight this could help. If you haven't had a problem yet, this could help prevent one. I like using this stick for calf massages better than my longer Marathon Stick because it's just the right size; the goldilocks of the gastrocnemius. Also, because it is shorter there is less bend in the shaft of the stick. If you're looking for more of a multi-purpose massage stick I'd recommend going with the Marathon Stick which can also be used for back and shoulder massaging.I am not a medical professional. This tool was recommended to me by a licensed physical therapist for deep tissue massage and approved by a podiatrist.

Portable, easy to use
I got myself one of these and it is easy to take while traveling. Works great on sore muscles. I also got two for my grandsons ages 10 & 8 and they were pleased with the massage sticks.

"Little Stick", is small but effective!
I purchased this stick for mainly for my calf muscles. In physical therapy they have a much larger stick that I use when I go there. I was worried that the little stick would be too small, it being the smallest size offered, but after reading that it was great for calves on their website I decided to buy it. I am very satisfied with the little stick. I find it much easier to control than the larger stick that I tried, it is the perfect size for calves and shins! I also found that you can use it on your upper legs too, it might not fit across your whole thigh but it still does the job. I am glad that I did not spend a lot more money on much larger stick. I even used it a little on my arms and neck. It feels so good that I want to use it everywhere! I would highly recommend!

great for travel or when spouse is using the full-size stick
The Stick is one of the greatest tools for working out the knots in sore muscles. The little stick is great for travel. One reason I got it is that I always have TSA look oddly at my full size stick when I have tried to take it with me in carry-on luggage. I haven't tried to get the little stick through airport security yet, but I expect fewer delays. It massages lower legs (Calves, Shins, etc) as well as the larger, but doesn't have the same leverage for hamstrings and hips as the larger sticks. In some ways it is better for calves as it has a nice flexibility.

Simple tool, amazing difference
I had been experiencing very tight calves about midway through my run which were effecting my mileage. Stretching wasn't making much of a difference and I was beginning to feel discomfort in my hams and lower back. I figured the Stick was worth a try before I went to my PT. The first time I used it I realized I had some serious knots to remedy. This tool does not feel good to use if you really need it but it is worth the discomfort; after those adhesions are broken up you will feel terrific. (I also recognized that I needed to address my imbalances so I wouldn't keep injuring myself - don't overlook identifying the cause.) I traveled 25% farther without cramping on run 1 and by the third session I was running my entire route with only minimal tightness. If I get complacent and don't use the Stick for a while I start to get lower back pain. It's all about keeping the column in balance. If you need the Stick you will love the Stick. Nothing else I tried seemed to get to those knots out.Regarding the plastic smell other reviewers have mentioned, my Stick has comfortable, rubbery green handles and absolutely no discernible odor. I don't see any weaknesses in the materials or design so it should essentially last forever with normal use.

Don't let the smoothness fool you. Its hard working.
I purchased the "little stick" just because I always love the little version of everything and its very soothing. I travel frequently and wanted something small but effective. This is it! I run on beach every morning (sometimes evenings too), shore and soft sand and after an hour it can get brutal! By evening I'm just plain sore. So this thing comes in handy. I love the smoothness because I can use it around my knees and it has this perfect but slight amount of bend to it, where most others are a steel rod. Also its perfect for the back of the neck and upper back. This one is may favorite out of all the five different ones I have bought and tried. I may also purchase the traveler, one size up, since I have finally found the perfect massager roller for me.

Very firm and portable.
I have been using the regular stick for about six months now. It is a wonderful product that really helps alleviate soreness and rejuvenate muscles quicker.I got this so I could take it to work in a backpack. The full size stick fit in a standard backpack but not very well. This stick is much firmer which means I can really get deep into the muscles. As another reviewer stated, it's a bit of a squeeze to get the sides of the thighs, but it still works. If you're looking for something with less give and more portable than the standard stick, this is well worth it.

Smaller size great for travel
This was recommended to me by my Physical Therapy Specialist and it works! I loosen up my muscles with it before a stretch and after exercise if I feel tight and sore. I also use it in the morning if my muscles are sore from sleeping. It's wonderful!
