Great book!
So well written, beautiful pictures, and a great bunch of patterns to get you started. Even if you don't want to go into business for yourself, this is a great book to have. I make and give away all my creations as gifts. Especially the grocery tote and the zippered pouch. I've had a lot of fun with this book!

Awesome projects in the book were a great bonus!
I am starting my own business of selling purses, pillows, etc. and this book was most helpful. I have purchased several other books, but I found this one to be very clear and helpful, with some great ideas. The awesome projects in the book were a bonus!!

Not As Good As It Should or Could Have Been
I wanted to love this book because I love Virginia's projects and tutorials, but there are some issues! First the good though - the projects are cute, she has some super good advice on starting your own sewing business and how to sell online and at craft shows, which is great. I also like that she gives suggested prices for your items because that is something I struggle with. Now the not so good! The problem is with the instructions. They are not thorough enough in my opinion. I find I end up having to make the projects two or three times before I understand what I'm supposed to do. I have to constantly take out stitches and tear things apart and begin again, which is a lot of work and a lot of waste! The printed instructions are often very vague, and sometimes leave out steps so that you are having to go back and fix things. Also there are not enough pictures of the process. Pictures would help a lot to explain just what you're supposed to do! Also, I think there should be videos for those who have purchased the books as companions to the book, that would go a long way in explaining how to do these projects. I'm hoping in future books Virginia can do a little more thorough explaining because she really is a great crafter!

Fantastic!
I purchased this book not to start selling my projects but to find projects appropriate for gift giving—like the type of items you find at craft fairs etc. the book has great, uncomplicated projects perfect for my purpose. However, I say this book is very well done for anyone wishing to start a business. The content is superb and the layout and organization of the book is terrific.

Excellent and Practical Advice
Checked this book out from the library and loved it so much I had to buy it for my creative library. The author answers every question and brought up some ideas that I hadn't thought of. Also, the copyright free patterns and cost/pricing estimates were really helpful. Excellent and practical advice for anyone considering a sewing business.

Great way to start out your craft business
The author is so wonderful to provide all these patterns that are for public use, very generous. The book is well written and the photos and instructions are great. Nice job!

Really, really liked it!
I really liked this book, so much so, I bought one for my daughter, who thinks her son's girl friend would like it too. We liked the organization of the book. The chapter on photography to sell items on the internet was tops. It's just full of info for selling on internet or craft fairs. Plus there's cute patterns for thing to make!

What I needed to get started.
How do I sell locally and on line is the question, SEWING TO SELL by Virginia Lindsay has some of the answers. It is “The beginners guide to starting a craft business”, a book I purchased in 2019, glanced at in 2020 and am now taking seriously. To date, I have given away more crafts than I have sold mainly because I make money in other ways. But making stuff cost and I do not have a credit card or an unlimited supply of money. I have been asked on more than one occasion by people willing to pay: Do you have a website? My answer has always been no. So what does this book have to offer?SEWING TO SELL talks mostly about what to make and how to make it. In the appendix is the administrative stuff like taxes and setting up a business but it is just an overview. This book simply gives the reader the encouragement to know that she can make money making things like grocery totes. The “but” is: you have to have an inventory. This book was exactly what I needed, an overview of selling what I make. I did not want a big 300+ page manual of setting up a business from beginning to the first customer- that would be overwhelming. Somethings you can just google.Written by Marsh L F RandolphThis book is part of my personal reading library. The review is my honest unsolicited opinion.

I don't have a website or sell on Etsy or anything like that and work just with commissions
I have to confess that I purchased this book more for the patterns than the contents of the book. I don't have a website or sell on Etsy or anything like that and work just with commissions. The actual patterns are varied and it is suggested that you make them in your own style, whatever that may be. The actual content of the book, as you would expect is much more geared to the US market, but nonetheless, a lot of it is applicable here in the UK too.

Good Advice.
I bought this for the patterns but found them very Dated and nothing that I would make. The information regarding setting up a craft business is very good but I'm established, only bought it for the patterns as I mentioned.
