Zooplankton of the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts: A Guide to Their Identification and Ecology

I am an oceanography PhD student and have found this book to be very helpful in learning to identify zooplankton. The extreme diversity of plankton makes it difficult to create a broad guide, but the authors of this book have managed to touch on all of the different groups while maintaining scientific accuracy. In addition to information about each species, there are recommended readings at the end of each chapter for those who want to learn about the species groups in more detail. The book also contains information on capturing and preserving plankton, which is ideal for any educator.I cannot recommend this book enough for someone who is just getting interested in biological oceanography. However, the extensive scientific references throughout the text will keep even an experienced plankton biologist referencing this book for years to come.

This book is great for the beginner looking to learn about how to ID taxonomy. It is in no way comprehensive, so if you're looking for a book to ID a particular species you may or may not be out of luck. However, it is a wonderful starting guide to get you on the right track.

This is an excellent book for the beginning planktologist as well as an ongoing reference source. Clearly written, well organised and easy to use.

Environmental educators have been waiting a long time for a book on the east coast plankton (as well as the Gulf of Mexico!), but the wait was worth it. Marni Fyling's illustrations are incredibly precise and the accompanying text is both informative and readable. The book is not cheap, but it's what these books seem to cost these days. Particularly for something that will come in so handy.

Great - good background reading

I use this to help id zooplankton. Although I have a familiarity with what I see this book has come in very handy in id'ing some of the animals I can't recognize.
