Chips easy
I've had this knife for about 18 months. I'm a home cook, but understand knives and maintenance pretty well. Its great for cutting fruits and veggies, holds an edge well, but I do hone it after ever 2nd or 3rd use. Recently I discovered a 1/16" chip in the blade. I only chop on polyethylene cutting boards, hand wash/dry and place in a wood block. I noticed my paring knife had a chip some time ago, but didn't think too much of it. It appears that the steel is very brittle. I would really give this 3.5 stars. I'm going to have it professionally ground and re-sharpened. I decided to step up and order a real Japanese style knife.

I shall name you "Chopper"
After lusting for this knife for over a year, I finally splurged - and I'm so happy I did! Although I read about Nakiri knives and know they work best with a cutting technique that is different from what I'm used to with conventional European chef's knives, I was surprised at the delicate cuts I can make with what looks like a cousin to the cleaver. Search for videos to show you the best techniques for using this kind of knife. This is my new favorite knife for cutting fruits and vegetables from ultra-thin apple slices to powering through heavy winter squash. It has rustic beauty and feels well-balanced in the hand. And it's so very sharp! Hide this one from children and non-cooking spouses and it will serve you until the end of time.

Good blade
Stays sharp a long time because the metal is so hardbut that also means that it clips easily. Not the kind ofblade you can just throw into a drawer.

Aesthetically very pleasing
but it isn't half as sharp as other nakiri knives I have used that cost half as much. While it cannot be expected that it will slice as thinly as an usuba geometry, the edge angle isn't acute enough to take advantage of the edge, making chopping unremarkable.Really pretty knife but more of a show piece than a working knife (in every sense).

I found that the workmanship on it was NOT what I expected
I was waiting for this knife to be at a price I could afford at a retailer but it never happened . I finally found it at a lower price here on amazon, so I got it. When I received it I was really excited. I opened it and found that the workmanship on it was NOT what I expected nor what I saw at the retailer. I found defective workmanship which I posted pictures of below. The seams were not good at all. I thought I was seeing rusty spots but it was actually the grind marks left from poor workmanship. When purchasing a knife which states in the description as being " Elegant and precise and The Nakiri Knife features a timeless, radiant design" but this was NOT the case in my purchase. I have not yet contacted Calphalon yet.

Second knife was good
First knife that came was used. Had scratches and rust spots. Very upset because it was supposed to be new. Amazon customer service was great and the next knife was good.

Great knife
Great balance and heft, very high quality knife. However I'll need to get a new knife block as it does not fit in any of the slots of the block currently sold by Calphalon with this knife set.

Great knife
Sharp and easy to handle. Not the most versatile as can be expected for a nakiri but great at what they’re intended to do. Attractive and unique design without being overdone. There are some comments regarding rusting issues for the Katana series in general, however mine’s held up so far.

Great
The grip is really good. The knife does indeed feels a bit heavy, but it's only adding to the feeling I get from it when I chop stuff. I'm really satisfied with it
