Understanding and Servicing Alarm Systems

I bought this book for the Florida State Alarm Exam. I think it is the only reason why someone would by this book because its outdated for the security industry. The book was a good read but it was quite confusing because it had so much content. I decided to take a preparation course before taking the actually exam. I order the Power Learning Systems online course from Steve Dale and it help me understand this book and the others that were on the Florida exam. The Florida State Alarm exam was very difficult and I thought I would post this comment so others won't make the mistake of not properly preparing for this difficult exam. I wish you well on the exam.

This is an amazing text and i would highly recommend it to anyone who beginning their career in security systems. I came oon the job with very minimal experience and this text has been a great supplement to the training the more experienced techs are handing out.

I got the burglar alarm license using this and the other book purchased using discover card points.

Old information.... most of it is not relevant with today's alarm systems. I bought this hoping it would help me with a new job as an alarm install tech, good for alarm basics, or for someone who has to repair an old system. It touches very slightly on the stuff we use today... I paid $70 for the book and felt ripped off... I feel like $20 would have been a fair price for this book.

I bought this book to pass a licensing exam. This is a terribly written book. It is not written in a way that is conducive to learning. The author writes in such a way that only someone who has been in the business and has a decent background knowledge would understand the information. He uses industry “jargon” without defining, the information is sporadic and unorganized, and generally does not make sense. I’m super disappointed. Find a better resource.

Even though this book is quite a few years old, being an electronics guy who has brought tons of old Optima XM panels back to life it is still relevant, because apart from smart alarms and wireless systems, not much has actually changed. A good read, for both newcomers and techs alike

I like the ability to change text size.The system would be perfect if I had a way to download portions of the book specific to my individual needs.The materials are used for educational purposes.
