Film-Gard Plastic Polyethylene Sheeting 4 Mil, Black, 3' x 50'

Our 2 flat building in Chicago had been neglected for decades and was totally overgrown with weeds, trash saplings and out-of-control vining ground cover. Repeated Round Up applications killed about 80% but the vines had deep roots and kept coming back, so I pulled out as much as possible by hand and then covered all the ground with a larger version of this same plastic sheeting. Four mil is thick enough to be pretty durable and to smother almost any surviving weeds or vines. I cut X-shaped holes In the plastic to plant new shrubs and plants and folded the “petals” back to contain as many weeds as possible, then covered the plastic with 2 inches of coarse mulch to hold it in place. Three years later, the vegetation is thriving and the only weeds are from seeds that blow into the mulch, which are easy to pull by hand or to spritz with Round Up. Bought this roll to replace the film in my vegetable garden in the back yard because I wanted to move the tomato plants to new positions. The old plastic was still in good shape but I had cut so many X's to move plants aver the years, weeds could grow in the unused openings. It was easy to roll up the old plastic with what remained of the mulch and put down a new strip. Six X cuts later, the new starter plants were in place and surrounded with a fresh layer of mulch. This is an excellent product for this application so you can enjoy your plants and shrubs without messing with weeds.

I’m using these to cover an area in my backyard that the previous homeowners planted a lot of strange things so I can eventually plant a garden there next year. The roll was extremely easy to use and it seems quite sturdy. I used some wire garden stakes to keep it in place and all seems well. Hopefully next spring I have nothing but a lovely patch of dirt underneath and in the meantime I don’t have to look at the strange mix of vegetation they had going on. I will purchase another roll as this wasn’t quite wide enough but that doesn’t take away from the product.

In order to extend the life of a raised garden bed I was building I needed something to prevent direct soil contact with the wood, this worked perfectly.

Inexpensive way to rid beds of weeds.

I bought this plastic to help heat up some garden rows we were planting sweet potatoes in and none of our local stores sold anything like this that wasn’t real wide that we would have had to cut down. The thickness was just right, and width was just right. We did use some landscaping staples to help hold it down. I can’t address durability yet, but if it doesn’t last more than one year, I feel the price is reasonable enough to rebuy when needed.

Works

The thickness of the plastic is good. It seems rugged. The 3 foot width is easy to handle. I didn't have to cut lengthwise it to cover a row. Mine arrived with a cut down the middle for 1/3 of the roll so I had to put rocks over that portion to keep the cut closed. Not a bad product for the price. I would give it 5 stars except for the cut in the plastic.

This item is essential. It does stop thieves from locating keys for your car, house, tool box. I highly recommend buying this!

We used this plastic to control weeds and grass coming through the fence. It has worked very effectively. Good weight.
