Mighty little fan, surprisingly quiet for the velocity.
Powerful, relatively quiet, compact. I actually took it off the stand, and MacGuyver-ed it into a hole in my office door to exchange air with the rest of the house, while keeping my (very cute, very needy) cats at bay while I'm trying to work. It moves so much air that there's a lovely sheet of cool, fresh air rushing under the gap under the door (a little over an inch, hard floors) as the air rushes in to replace the output of this little beast.

Terrific fan - I’d get another in a second
Does just as advertised. Strong, quiet, moves a lot of air around. At the moment (temp in 90s all this week) I’m sleeping with a window a/c on low and this fan moving air around not only the room it’s in but into connected spaces. Works beautifully. Keeps things cool with just a touch of ac to lower the air temp slightly. Even on medium easy to sleep through (and I’m a light sleeper). I also bought an ARA for stronger air movement on first floor. That’s a different beast for a different purpose (move air longer distance). I may also get another of these because it works so well at what it’s supposed to do. Vornado customer service (needed for ARA, not this) is fantastic.

Unreal performance and value
Phenomenal machine that allows us to set the thermostat to 80F (no joke!) and still feel comfortable in NYC summer weather. The secret lies in understanding that this machine isn't a fan by any means. Traditional fans are designed to blow air directly onto your body, which uses a wind chill effect to trick your body into believing it's cooler than it really is. Essentially, our bodies cool down by sweating and evaporating the sweat. By blowing air on your body, you hasten the evaporation and thus making you feel cooler. This works best if the fan is blowing directly on you, which is another reason why traditional fans oscillate so it can push air on everyone in the room. However, as I mentioned earlier, the Vornado 660 isn't a fan--it's actually an air circulator (I didn't believe the marketing term until I used it). To use this machine, position it in the corner of the room on the ground (not elevated). Point the machine towards the ceiling or upper wall of the opposite corner (i.e., in a diagonal if possible) and make sure there's nothing in the way. Now wait a few minutes and soon you'll feel the air is moving in the room no matter where you are! I wouldn't call it a breeze but it definitely uses the wind chill effect I mentioned earlier. What's happening is this machine sucks in cool air that has accumulated near the floor (cool air is denser and thus heavier than warm air) and projects it in a tight funnel towards the ceiling where the warm air is hanging out. This results in two things: 1) the two zones of air are mixed and 2) the funneled air reflects off the wall/ceiling, circulates throughout the room and returns to the machine, thus resetting the cycle. As a result, oscillation on this machine would be a BAD thing (and a reason it's not an option) since it would disturb the cycle. If you don't believe this, try placing your hand near the wall, you'll definitely feel a gentle flow of air! By leaving the machine undisturbed, you allow it to set up the cycle and perform its magic! Just remember, everyone's room is shaped differently so you'll need to move around the machine and fiddle with the positioning to ensure the optimal flow of air. Power setting 2 is sufficient for most cases and what we typically use. We switch to 3 on the warmest of days. If you need raw power, you can switch to 4, but there's really no reason to. Power setting 1 is whisper quiet and perfect for bedtime. Regardless, this fan is more powerful and quieter than the every other fan we've used before. A terrific 5 year warranty is the icing on the cake!

I am the author of The Bachelor's Bible and The Diet Bible which has a chapter called The Best of Everything
I am a writer, a chef, a lawyer, a comedian, and a reviewer of products. I am the author of The Bachelor's Bible and The Diet Bible which has a chapter called The Best of Everything. I spent 6 years writing my 4 books and purchasing and reviewing thousands of products, reading reviews, studying Consumer Reports and in general finding out what the best gadgets, tech devices, tools, household goods, foods, and just about every other thing we humans have to buy to make out lives better, simpler, or more convenient/productive. Some products, like this air curculator actually improve our lives, solve a problem, and save us thousands of dollars, but they are of no use unless you own one. Such is this seemingly simple little black plastic 'fan". A fan is just a noisy machine with a loud motor and loud blades that push air at you. The air evaporates the sweat (or slight moisture) off of your exposed skin and that in turns cools your body down...much like a light ocean breeze on a balmy tropical night on the beach...a pleasant experience. A fan is just air in your face whether it turns (oscillates) or not. This air circulator creates a "vortex' and moves the air in the room around so that it is evenly cool in every corner of the room, much like a ceiling fan. If you need a humidifier for the winter, this company also sells one. This is the only fan you will ever need or want and coming from Vornado, the world leader and innovator in fans, it will likely last for 30 years if you clean it regularly...yes you have to clean a fan! If you want to save a ton of money on air-conditioning, clear the smoke and heat out of your kitchen, make your bedroom nice and cool at night, and turn your living room into a tropical beach..you will need a little tropical air spray...then buy one if these fans and do not even consider other reviews that say it is no better or too expensive, or that it did not circulate air 100 feet away as claimed. These reviewers are not very good at writing reviews or are nitpickers who turn off people from buying an item. I almost did not buy the Braun Series 7 790 electric shaver due to many negative reviews but then I considered that there were 1, 200 positive reviews and I ignored the 50 idiots who did not like it or who thought their one one was better. You want a fan...but this air circulator instead and you will thank me. Read by books free at bachelorsbible.com and you will thank me even more (the first book is there, half free in the free preview and blog sections..email me at that site and I will send you the other three free just to test market them!) I also suggest you buy a few of the Sun Tea borcillate double wall glasses for drinking iced tea in your new living room..get them here at Amazon in three sizes, they are the best glasses on earth and keep your drinks very cold or very hot for a long time and the ice cubes do not melt and dilute your drinks.

I bought two model 660. Would I do that(!), again?
One is whisper quiet. The other makes a clicking sound as if something is loose. Nothing is loose. If you remember the days when kids took a playing card and put it on the frame of their bike; and as they rode it, the card made a noise constantly because it was always being hit by the spokes of the bicycle wheel. That's the sound one Vornado 660 makes, whereas the other Vornado 660 is whisper quiet. Quality control is inconsistent unless the Vornado makers are targeting people that want sound and people that want no sound. I prefer no sound. The other fan is in use in the room with One who is not as bothered about the noise, as I am. If the other fan had been rejected by the One using it, I would have sent it back and not purchased a replacement. The Vornado 660 makers were able to sell two version of one fan model using different manufacturing quality. We have two versions of quality in our two fans. Would I buy another Vornado 660? No, I have two. I kept two. Would I buy another Vornado of any model? Probably, as my current odds are there is 50/50 chance I'll get a good one with good quality control behind it Am I glad I bought these two? Yes, I am, and only because the noise making one is accepted by someone else in the household. The Vornado 660 has four speeds. For me and my use, of the model 660 this summer; the Vornado has one, because I would not use the lower speeds this summer. In the winter, I may find a use for moving air at lower speeds, but for the reason and season someone like me purchases a Vornado 660 Whole Room Air Circulator for, only the highest speed is useful for me. If you turn the model 660 toward the middle of a room on a hot day and expect it to cool it down, it won't happen. The fan is designed to bounce the wind off a solid surface and circulate the air. A box fan will be set to blow air across a room. The Vornado 660 should be set to bounce the air off a wall, corner, or circulate diagonally along the ceiling. Heated air rises, and if not circulated or dispersed properly, the heated air will get stagnant and compact itself in the upper surface area of heated area, and the Vornado 660 would not be as effective blowing air across an open area room if the heated air is concentrated at the top of that room There are fans made specifically for pusing air across open air space. Our household has found using the Vornado 660 as it is designed and intended to function works better than using it against it's design and function. I do not believe nor think I wasted my money because I am using using both Vornado 660 Whole Room Air Circulators. I am aware that there were prior comments of noise, and those comments are just as accurate as the comments of quiet operation. I have learned over time, that if someone experiences something, it's not for me to decide what they have experienced, I was not there when they experienced it, so I rely on what they tell me was their experience before I make a decision to potentially experience the same thing or chance on experiencing something different; and I know what I have experienced owning these two Vornado model 660s. Two Vornado 660s, looking identical, from the same manufacturer, ordered and shipped from the same business, shipped at the same time, no damage to the external boxes, still in manufacturer packaging, plugged into the same and similar outlets, and one Vornado 660 sounds like there is a loose object in it as long as it is operating and in use. It is operating 24/7, and is only quiet when it is turned off. One Vornado 660 is so quiet you can easily forget it's in the room and it is also operating 24/7.

Vornado Rocks
Best small fan we've ever bought. We have bought several of these fans for our hallways in the house and RV. This little fan moves the air and quiet overall.

Moves the air like a force of nature
As a child, I loved the summer. As an older adult, I dread it, especially living in the Northeastern coastal U.S. As June approaches every year, I tell myself "this will be a bearable summer" and by late July, I feel like I am living out a prison sentence of punishment by extreme heat. 2022 has been especially brutal with several long heatwaves where the temperature was in the high 90s every day for weeks on end. It never went below the high 80s at night, so no relief. My rental house is nearly 100 years old with the windows being too rotted to hold an air conditioner or in some cases to even open. Since I moved back to the East coast, i have acquired nearly a dozen fans of all types-box fans, tower fans, tiny portables that clip to the edge of my desk. None have been particularly successful at keeping any room even reasonably comfortable. Earlier this year, in preparation for several months of heat torture, I bought a Vornado 630 for the bedroom. While it did not create a cool oasis for drifitng off to a comfortable sleep, it at least moved hot air around. As weeks went by and the heat waves got longer and my house retained more heat, I decided life was too short to be this uncomforatble and I bought this $100 Vornado 660. I used it last night for the first time on the highest setting along with the 630 on the other side of the room, also on the highest setting. I was able to sleep under a light coverlet. In addition, it was the first time since early June that I slept peacefully and comfortably all night long and woke up feeling refreshed and well rested. Even my youngest cat spent the entire night on the bed with me. Is it noisy? No. Sure, it sounds like a fan but I consider that white noise a plus as I live on a major artery in a very big city. It doesn't roar or rattle or rumble or hum so I do not understand the comments about this being a nuisance or detriment to sleep. Who cares if it has no remote control? Are we now all so lazy and helpless that getting up to push a button has become problematic or a major issue?! It was so wonderful to wake up in dry, not sweat soaked night clothes and to spend a pleasant 30 minutes gradually coming to full wakefulness while enjoying the company of my dear little cat, who also had a cool, restful night. As it is mid-August and the dog days are waning, I don't feel a need to immediately spend another $100 on a second Vornado 660 but I may very well purchase a second unit at the end of the summer as defense against next year's brutal weather. Global warming isn't going to go away but this fan can get one through some of the worst of the summer. Worth every cent. Highly recommend!

Vornado Model 660: A Good Performer and Worth the Money
Vornado Model 660 Fan: Vornado fans are not necessarily inexpensive fans, but I think they are worth the money. The model 660 is currently one of their largest floor models, and can move a lot of air. Right now, in the middle of being under a heat dome with temperatures reaching the high 90's and up to 100 degrees, I have been using mine constantly - sometimes by itself, and other times in conjunction with the AC. This Vornado 660 has four speeds; I found the lowest speed to be very quiet. As you increase the speed, the fan is understandably louder - as it would be with any fan. This fan does not oscillate, but you can change the angle from pointing down to the floor to up toward the ceiling. It is also supposed to be easy to open up to clean the blades, but I cannot comment on that yet, since I have only had the fan about two weeks.
