Problems
I bought a Hegner and have not used it very much, first problem blades are awful to change second problem is I turn on the switch and it doesn't run. I will take it to an electrician and see if it is the switch. I would never buy a Hegner.

Wow what a great saw
We burned out a cheap saw. Went to our big box hardware store, and Chip told us, we don't sell scroll saws but if you really want a good one go look up Hegner. They are the best saws available. The saw is wonderful, It's quiet and stable, nothing like the jackhammer we were working with before. It is an amazing saw.

Bad clamping system, but otherwise good.
Very stable and well built, but the release system is horrible - the dewalt system (finally saw it in a store) seems much much nicer. The quick clamp looks better than the default that this saw ships with, but it does not come with it and amazon does not sell it (seems hard to find sellers in the US and the hegner store I found does not seem to ship to the US). Am strongly considering returning it and getting the dewalt instead. (I'm a beginner, and the blade system makes a huge difference) - was hoping that this would be easier for learning - and it does saw very straight, but getting the blade setup is a pain.

Great scroll saw - easy to take care of
Great scroll saw - easy to take care of, cuts great - easy blade change - much better than my Dewalt.

very good solid made works great the only thing was the table insert was not flush with the surface so I put brass shims under it, also I needed more in the back than in the front. Now my work slides around the blade with no bumps or hang-ups.

The best piece of equipment I ever owned.
I just noticed a lack of reviews on this saw and wanted to do my part to rectify the situation. Some secrets are better not kept. I owned one of these saws for nigh on 10 years and I NEVER had even one issue with it. I bought it with the triangle stand, which gave a very good support even without bolting it down. One of the ways I would demonstrate the smoothness of the saw is that I would set a nickel on edge and turn the saw on and up to full speed. The nickel never fell over or vibrated off towards the edge. Before this saw I had owned a Dremel brand and the saw itself would almost vibrate off the table! Exact cutting requires full concentration and a rattling machine fully destroys that.I was able to cut 2" Madagascar Rosewood (a very dense wood) with this saw. For fine work the saw was more precise than my hand/eye coordination. The unique setup for blade changing was fast and easy. The saw has a bellows with a tube that blows away the sawdust as you work, keeping the cutting line clear and visible. The thing is expensive so if you don't plan to give it heavy use, maybe one of the other saws might be enough for you. I've heard some good things about some of the other high-end saws. But... if you need a precise tool that performs trouble free for years of heavy use, then I would have to say that I can not imagine a better choice. This thing whispers and hums, but never chatters.I had to sell mine years ago, and now I am back in the market. Hegner won my loyalty and I'm not even considering another brand.
