Ilford Rapid 1984262 Liquid Paper Photo Fixer 1 Litre

Old reliable. The only fixer I use because it doesn't require adding toxic hardener. If you're worried about being brand loyal, don't be. I use Ilford fixer with different brands of developers and stop bath. It's fine. It lasts a long while. I mix 200ml of fixer with 800ml of water to make my working solution for film fixing and use it up a quart at a time. I can usually develop at least 25 rolls of film before it saturates with silver. I use Edwal hypo-chek to determine when the silver saturation has taken place. So for me, a liter of Ilford rapid fixer gets me about 125 rolls of film developed. Probably more, honestly.

This is the only fixer I've ever used, but it's performed perfectly every time. It's also worth remembering that fixer, can be reused and replenished with smaller volumes to keep the blend fresh in a separate bottle. So one of these should last a good while. The specific details can be found on Ilford's website. If you really want to maximize the life of your fixer, you should use Ilford stop bath as well, since it does a slightly better job of neutralizing the developer, again, not required but if you're really particular about your chemicals that is the best practice.

Fixes film fast! No hardener is not a big deal and make it more versatile. Hardener is nice for high temperature processing and to resist damage but while using reels and "photoflo" (really Finish Jet Dry!) I've never seen a mark. More versatile since it can be used with amidol developers and before toning baths (which I have not done for years). If I need a hardener I can pick up alum from Ace or the local market and mix a bath.

The best of the best when it comes to film fixer. Keep in fridge and an opened bottle will last years. Follow instructions and expect archival fixing of films.

As its name says, it is the fixer solution that one uses after development do stop the development when needed. It is indeed rapid.

Definitely smart to buy the Ilford brand of products. I received very consistent results and recommend the fixer along with the developer and stop bath highly.

I shoot a lot of strange films and process "found film". Inexpensive enough to use one-shot for iffy films that might contaminate it. Ilford Rapid Fixer has never let me down.
